Let's talk more about garage door openers.

We have had a couple Genie belt drives on our backyard garage/shop for the last 10 years. 3 years ago I changed one of them to Chamberlain jackshaft drive, due to a two post lift, needing overhead space. All the fancy electronics for the Chamberlain went in the trash.
And why exactly?
 
I have the same question. I have 3 of them and the electronics is the best part on them. I’m able to open my doors with my phone.
My daughter on my suggestion 3? years ago installed one and they love it. Code enforcement/inspector had never seen one and he was impressed. So, I'm interested in what I am missing here.

wow, i got 30yrs. out my chamberlain worm drives, did replaces the gears in one years ago! and the only reason i replaced them I was given 2 new openers from a contractor that didn't need them!

disconnect the door from the opener and operate the door by hand, should be very easy to do or you have a roller/spring/track issue! after marking the spot on the beam where the link stops in both directions with the door fully open and closed! run the opener without the door attached adjusting it to stop at the marks!
if your bending the beam,the force adjustment is wrong or not working!

I have jackshaft on my shop and i like it but it's slow travel top and bottom bothers me when I'm trying to conserve heat! I'm not sure how the limits operate on a ceiling mount, I know the travel in a jackshaft is controlled by a wheel that gets rotation counted similar to a crank sensor! I can see how an eye/board failure would mess with this! On a double door a little chain slack maybe 1" droop allows the motor to gain some rpm before moving the door, puts a little more longevity in the motor!
