My 440 (auto) cranks at 22* advance just fine. The cam is not extreme, but rather mild. The marks lined up and I degreed the cam (only one intake and one exhaust lobe).
I think there might be two factors that help starter crank with this much advance: high torque starter and the fact that with stock distributor ignition advance at cranking speed is 5-8 degrees less than at idle speed.
