Mad 6al and mopar magnetic pickup distributor

When I was test driving my 67 coronet it quit on me on the way home. After troubleshooting,I detetmined that the msd box had failed. I installed it and it fired up. WhooHoo.
I then decided to replace the engine harness which I did. I then tried to start it but no start. I did all the msd troubleshooting and it points to another failed box. I'm suspicious.
Any comments?
 
Have you run an OHM meter across the pick up for readings? Also the MSD boxes do have a failure issue, especially since the outsourcing happened some years back. Not a huge amount but more than the older US production ones. Any friends around who can let you try a unit out?
 
I usually get a year or a bit more out of the newer
built Digital Boxes.

The old Analogy Boxes......... Forever, given I do not have a
electrical wiring issue that destroys them and that is on me.

I had replaced the magnetic module when I first had the no start and no,no one I know has a loaner box.
When I ground the white wire I get no response at the coil wire nor by shorting across the distributor wires
 
EZ to troubleshoot an MSD 6AL box..
Jumper the green and violet wires, this will fire the box
and coil producing spark.. And will confirm if the box & coil
are working correctly....

Been there,done that. No response. My concern is this is a new box and has about 5 minutes of running on it

Same deal with a lot of electronics now days. A lot of the guys running Mopar electronic ignition have issues with the new ECU's they buy. It's best to get a good one from @HALIFAXHOPS . He tests every one he sells.
I'm considering switching to a mopar icm except i need the plug in terminal
Hoppy may have some harnesses as well. He knows exactly what coil and ballast to use.

Note Made in USA and the RCA transistor. Some use Motorola. Good stuff !!!

The green & purple p/up wires MUST be kept separated from the coil wires. This is why there is as separate outlet on CD boxes for the p/up wires; if the wires are bundled together, you can get a signal induced into ther p/up wires at the wrong time...
 
No accell coil do have usa made 45 and 55KV coils. Define wiring terminal the ECU plug of the ecu harness have the plug used and nos harnesses from MP

Since I have an msd box that has failed twice I am inclined to get rid of it and go back to oem stuff. My distributor is magnetic pickup,I believe 75 mopar vintage ,and an accel coil. I can go 2 ways. Install an ecm/icm and wire it to my distributor but I do not have the special plug for the icm/ecm. Secondly,I can buy a complete kit including magnetic distributor,icm/ecm,and wiring and be done using my Accel coil.
Does that explain my situation?
With your president pissing on our Canadian leg with his tariff b.s. plus the dollar exchange ,I am looking for the most cost effective way of getting it running.
 
Look at the Petronix 510. I am really impressed for it and the price is right. Run from the new Mopar kits all Chinese junk, but a "authorized or licensed" product.

The tariffs are over the top.

I spoke to pertronix asking them what kit I needed but because there were no numbers on my old distributor,they could not suggest the kit I would need so the reason I am going back to OEM
