Making the HEI conversion SUPER simple!

The GM HEI module swap is nothing new. But it usually involved cutting wires, buying heat sink, mounting it some where some how. And if it turns out you didn't like it forwhatever reason and you want to go back to the Mopar ecu or similar , you had to rewire everything back again.

This is my solution . ....

3D Printed with ASA , the mount will house the GM module on a 1/8 thick piece of aluminum . The best part , I have recreated the Mopar OEM harness terminal into the mount. This is 100% plug and play. The foot print is the same an on orange box mopar ecu. The mounting holes the exact same. The wires are labeled for correct connection to a 4 pin HEI module. I vented the case to allow for max cooling.

Now an HEI swap is as simple as removing your orange box, mounting a HEI module to the mount. Screw the new mount into the exact same holes the orange box was screwed into. Then simply plug in the factory harness. The only other thing is to by pass your ballast with a jumper ( I am working on little mount for that as well ) . As long as you have the correct coil to go with the HEI, your done ! No cutting, no drilling, no hacking ! Install is about 10 mins ! And if you want to switch back , another 10mins and it's like it never happened. !

If you make these and don't price it way too high, you might do well.
This of course eliminates the ballast resistor, right?

not a bad idea. but those modules are notorious for dying due to heat. you need a bigger aluminum heat sink. but i like the idea
 
Those modules survived being mounted on rear mounted dists on GM cars + the Arizona heat.

I do think the heat sink should be a little thicker 1/8-3/16" for peace of mind....
 
Those GM modules don't fail due to heat like the Ford TFI modules, unless you're using the cheapest China module you can find. The way this unit is built has more venting than the original mounting in a HEI distributor.
 
If the OP is the same guy that was making 3D printed hood turn signal lenses for the 68-70 Chargers, I'd trust his work. I bought 2 pair of the hood turn signals and installed one pair in the red car.

The aluminum i used is 1/8 thick. I did do a lot of planning, when it came to the heat problem. ( I knew it would be brought up ) The design basically allows the module to " float " . The large venting I feel should allow any trapped heat to easy escape? The material itself that the mount is made of , is not a conductor of heat , so itself will not get hot ( it also won't aid in any sort of heat sink depending on which way u want to look at it) . With it being mounted on the firewall away from the motor it's is deffinantly better then a GM setup .

At the end of the day , if someone was still concerned I could double up the the aluminum and have the two pieces held together with the bolts that mounts the HEI.

Side note, you will also need a ground strap off the one mounting screw to make sure the module is grounded . No different then a mopar ecu
