Need some advice

Have a Mallory Hyfire ignition box w/ mallory coil and mallory unilte distributor. I have removed the chrysler ECM unit etc

I have the wire that mallory instruct you to connect to ignition key connected to the ballast which is in line with the voltage regulator - mallory states incorrect - I burned out the sensor in the distributor.

Mallory tells me to connect to the key switch - having a 73 road runner I know the amount of cables coming out of the column at the key switch.

Any advice how to hook up - this is the small trigger wire to the ignition box that signals the system to start. The ignition box gets it power direct from the battery

thanks Ralph

I have been talking to mallory tech service and i am all squared away except connecting to the key switch.
any comments to the key switch connection.
Thanks ralph

Thanks for the help.

But how do I actually do that. Is there a connection on the firewall to connect to or inside at the column that I should look for.

I am in the dark with electrical.

Like your car whats in it and how long have you been working on it.

thanks ralph

Ignition wire

You should have a blue wire that originaly connected to your ballast resistor. That shoud be HOT when the key is on, check it with a test light.
Connect the red wire from The Mallory to that blue wire. Look at the Mallory schematic and you will see Mopar connections instructions. It appears that the LARGE red wire from the Mallory gets connected to the battery positive (unswitched).
If this doe's not answer your questions, post a detailed discription of how you have things connected and I will help you. You can also send me a PM so the forum won't be cluttered.
My car is a 74, Was a 400 originaly, now has a 383 / 727 had it 12 years

starting problem

OK so here is some history and a pdf of my hook ups and voltage readings.

-alternator not charging so replaced with new powermaster unit - bench tested good prior to install

-car started went for ride, alt meter in dash showed charging when used headlights etc. - looking good so far.

-got home turned off car and would not start again.

-call mallory since i had installed a mallory hyfire, coil and unilite a few months prior. car running good with this setup.

-used mallory testing proceedures and hyfire tested good / unilite sensor did not - replaced it.

-still will not start / many new parts on this car / car cranks over fast, lights work etc but will not run. sounds like an electrical short to me.

any help would be appricated.

thanks Ralph
