Max Wedge hood scoop

Ive got a taller than stock max wedge scoop hanging on my wall in garage. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post on here if you're interested let me know. I took it off my 63 for a stock height scoop.[/QUOTE

Holy cow that scoop is monsterous, you need to put a warning on the side "beware jet intake". Thanks for the offer, but I am more of a stock looking person, what brand of scoop do you have on the car now?

lol that's exactly what I thought. Told prior owner I'd be looking for stock scoop and he says oh I have it out back, wanted something bigger. So not sure who made but fairly sturdy.

This is Larry at SLED CITY FIBERGLASS. We make 3 different sizes of Max Wedge scoops. Original is 2.5' and we have a 3.5" & 4.5". $300 for each plus shipping. They all have studs hanging for e-z mounting and you don't need a template for mounting. We have center opening studs built in on all of our scoops. Give me a call any day of the week including Sunday from 10am-10pm. www.sledcityfiberglass.com

I got one from AAR in Florida for my '63 Dodge project. It seems to be good quality, and should prep well for a high end finish. Has the mounting studs in place for the bolt on installation. My only complaint was I pre-ordered & paid to pick up at Carlisle, and they charged me a fee to bring it there. When I picked it up at their Vendor Space, they had the same scoops for sale, same price, NO SHIPPING... I probably won't order one again, but just take the chance and get to there space early, as I do need another for my '65 project...

Wow! That is so asinine for a company to do. Mancini would ask if you wanted them to bring the parts to Carlisle so you would save the shipping cost. I guess you never know. Asking questions is what I'm all about. Good luck on the next scoop.

Looking forward to hearing what you have to say. Did you get a template for the carb hole spacing, or did you just cut out a large section under the scoop?

Finally had some time to work on the scoop. I didn't have a template so lots of taping and measuring was necessary. The fit is fairly good. There is a small gap on both sides at the very front. It could use some sanding of the edge to level it out but it still isn't bolted down so maybe that will pull it down a little more.

The hole I need to cut will fall within the hood frame support underneath so it will still be strong. Not going to lie, it took my dad and I about 3.5 hours to make sure everything was perfectly aligned and to drill and file all the holes properly for fitment but we took our time (measured 50 times, drilled once). Here are some pics along the way.

Thank you for posting the pics very detailed. I like your methodology of using the studs and painter's tape for the alignment assistance.
The gap at the front, I'd be interested in knowing if when you tightened it down if it didnt pucker the hood sheet metal.

This is Larry at Sled City Fiberglass. Steve, if you look at the underside of your scoop there is enough material to shape that scoop to the same contour as the hood for a perfect fit. The 62 -65 cars all have different shapes for the hoods and that is why we left that area with a little meat there to do a little shaping. If that scoop had a turned in flange like a metal scoop and you bolted it down tight, it would some day crack and blow off. The original s/s cars that had these scoops were not all perfect fits, especially the aluminum nose cars.

I pressed down on it and it did close down a bit. Maybe when I finally go to tighten the front bolt down it will close up more. I used a 1/2" gap from the back of the hood which I read is approximately correct.

I painted mine. Comes Just regular fibreglass colour. Had to sand and use some filler putty in a few spots but nothing crazy.

Good to know Steve. I've been tossing around the idea of changing to a max wedge scoop. I think that I would probably deal with Larry from Sled City he seems to be an ok guy.
Thanks again . Preachr.

On a 64 330 440 polara and 500 there are a small holes lower on the fenderwell. One on each side I am going to build a air duct for it add a hose go to the front bumper and build a intake mount it to bumper brackets and hopefully that will help with the heat. I

Glasteck and vfn fiberglass has the max wedge scoop in different sizes also they look good in pics

Looks good. I don't know if I would want my scoop in aluminum instead of glass as mine is. I always heard the aluminum dents so easy. And I know my scoop is thick fiberglass as I think it weighs as much as my glass hood. And it was given to me as a gift for helpng a friend so I don't know what brand it is. Ron
