Mini tubbing 67 Belvedere II

I'm minitubbing my 67, and changing the trunk floor and tank to a 69 charger style. That will allow the exhaust to exit out the back, and I will be able to use the existing filler location with some modification to the fill tube.

What is the method 66-67 B Body owners are using to move the rear end housing back 3/4 to a 1.00 inch back from it's original location to make room for 30 inch tall tires? Thank you

Haven’t done it, but have thought about it. I imagine you could simply cut the frame rails for the springboxes at the desired location. Then use a 1” (or whatever dimension the adjustment is) spacer plate at the flange that locates to the stock bolt facing location.

How did you deal with the spring centering pin? Did you drill a new hole in the shock plate a inch from the original hole? Thanks.

My springs are moved in to the frame rails, old school '70's style. I carefully measured back 3/4" on each side of both left & right. I did lengthen the drive shaft. Moving the center bolt hole didn't work, pinion flange moves back.

So twice in this thread I have posted my ideas without actual experience. I now HAVE tackled this task and can offer the following with first hand experience:

I moved the axle rearward approx 1-1/8” to make room for a 30” tall tire (29.5x10.5 PBR). I accomplished this by working with US Catool, having them custom drill the spring-eye location in their spring boxes. I just gave them dimensions, and they drilled them where I specified. Worked perfectly.

After moving the suspension, the fuel tank filler neck would not fit. Could I have modified it?…. Possibly. But I figured the odds of it venting properly after a modification were extremely low, so I just included a cell in my project, and I’m glad I did.

the unexpected aftermath of the above mod was that the shock locations were now jacked up. I tackled this by modifying the stock upper shock mounts to accept the shocks behind the mount, instead of in the center of it. This has worked great so far.

even with the US Cartool kit which bolts in place, there is still a good amount of work that has to go into properly locating the spring boxes to square the axle. I measured them against the rear surfaces of the torsion bars, both parallel and triangulated, to assure square.
