Mopar Muscle Article on Stealth Heads

I too bought a set of stealth's mostly due to the cost of having iron heads brought up to par so to speak. I had them inspected and did replace the comp stamped locks with crane forged locks( on the recommendation of my machinist)and they flow close to 290 @ 0600 after some port work. IMHO the stealth heads are the best bang for the buck deal out there for the budget minded bracket racer. Sure you can go EDDY or INDY but the cost is much higher, the stealths have their limit and if they fit your budget/build then go for it and have fun.

Here are the flow figures from the Brodix website for the CNC ported B1BS cylinder heads for the big block. Note that I have never tested an OOTB cylinder head that EVER flowed what it was advertised to flow.

LIft..................CNC B1BS..........ported Stealth

.100...................N/A.......................80/67
.200...............145/126..................157/139
.300...............214/171..................220/190
.400...............267/211..................269/228
.500...............305/238..................306/255
.600...............337/255..................334/275
.700...............348/279..................345/287

$2,333.08 is what Brodix wants for EACH head or $4,666.16/pair set up with springs, retainers and locks.

For WAY less money you can have a pair of Stealths that will be equal to or better than a pair of B1BS heads.

So if you already own a pair of Stealths, it doesn't make sense to buy another pair of "race" heads to get 750 or more horsepower.

I'd like to see what Cody could do with a set of un ported B1BS heads.

I would too.

But Cody had quite a laugh today while we were working on the dyno. He says, "B1'BS' huh?", and chuckled off and on for a few minutes. He is fun to be around.

IQ52,
From what you say/show flow wise would you say that if you were shooting for 600hp or less ,street/strip use,the CNC stealth head may be no better or worse than any other head with a standard intake port opening.I currently run pocket ported stealths on a 0.055 over 440 and seem to make 520ish hp. I am hoping to pick up 25 to 35 hp , allowing that i appear to have maxed out my heads, would the cnc version help me out ? Or would i maybe need more cam too .
Car weighs just ovdr 3700lbs race weight,10.75 :1,solid ft 258@050-520 net lift,M1 single plane,825 mighty demon,hooker comp headers 3"exhaust to diff,5200 vert,4.1 gears,28" tyre.
Car has run 10.99 but averages about 11.1 ish at high 119mph, . I am unable to richen it up past 12.9 on the dyno, and never goes over 412rwhp. I have had 3 cams,3 different induction systems. The M1,a victor, modman dual quad, the 825 and a prosytems 1000 carb .Current cam is the fastest .
I would like to run consistant 11.02-5 which would bd easier to achieve gy slowing it from say 10.92-5.
I may also end up with a stroker and would expect these heads go be ok for it again looking to 600hp maximum.
Thanks for your earlier posts and hopefully reading through this long winded question

Simply, the ported heads will definately help you without a cam change but would be even better with more lift. The stroker will really need the ported heads.

IQ52,
thanks for the reply.Certainly points me in the right direction, maybe look at 1.6 rockers to help the lift
thanks again,

Sure, you're welcome. Just remember, 1.6 rockers and 3/8 pushrods require a lot of grinding on the outside of the Stealth intake ports for pushrod clearance.

IQ52,
thanks. Don't i know about grinding to clear the 3/8 pushrod, had to do that with 1.5's.Had to fit 5/16" when iwent to a solid cam ,go figure.
Realistically i will buy the stealth cnc and run them to see the gain then go from there , though this will happen later this year . Track championship is into rnd 2 this weekend and i should try to run the same combo for a full season without changeing anything
thanks again,

Well i bit the bullet and bought a set . These are a real nice looking head and a dredit to MCH,.
Chambers came in at 81.5 , i had to cut 0.030 to pull the chambef down to match my current heads.
Fitted them up though i did swap to a Victor440 from the M1 with 1" spacer . There must be a slight port change as with the new heads i had to cut 0.065 off the manifold .
On the chassis dyno last night with my BG825 carb it picked up 6-8 rwhp ,up from 408rwhp average. Then i put on a Prosystems HP1000 based carb , went up to 428rwhp . I have had to put a higher PV in as the motor pulls more vacuum at cruise and mid range . Jetting and timing did not need changing , i did do a timing and jet loop .
I have used the Prosystems carb before and never seen more than 3 or 4 hp gain over the 825
Now for next weekend and the prostreet meeting .

...I mentioned what the guy at MCH said because I'd been hearing online that the newer generation of Stealths came with Comp Cams hardware but then when you go on the 440Source website they still offer the Comp Cams hardware as an upgrade???
I recently bought Stealths and a sticker on the outside of the box says something like "These heads feature USA made spring locks by Compcams".
I chose anyway to upgrade to the 10 degree locks and corresponding retainers and there is a significant difference in the supplied locks versus the upgrade version. The supplied locks look really tiny compared to the upgrade version. I'm attaching a picture of them...I think you can figure out which is which... P2231889.jpg

Tallhair,
i was suprised as the previous stealth heads were cut to a similar chamber size and the manifold fitted fine

ok,
ran the car on saturday certainly a good improvement.
DA was 1300-1650 range, average DA for track is around 1600-1800.
For the 3 qualifiers and first 2 rounds i could not run it out the back door . 1/8th mile numbers were ; [email protected] , [email protected] , [email protected] , [email protected] , [email protected] . Wallace calculater says looks like 10.97 , 11.03 , 11.01 , 11.01 , 11.00
Third round i pulled a 0.003 cherry and ran it out [email protected] on a 11.01 dial and won through the lights, rats ! Got in the grudge lane to fairly hot lap it ran [email protected]
It looks like a solid 1/10th gain and about 1 MPH,i am running now about 45lbs heavier than my 10 second pass . This was with no track adjustment may need a little jetting play with .
Certainly seem to have gained the consistancy i was looking for .
By the way the cars i ran were out of the normal class i run , i footbrake and am not allowed delay boxes, the cars i ran are trans brake cars with mostly delay boxes ,Super Sedan class . They dialed 9.22 , 9.55 , 7.59

got a couple more runs at the track championship round on the 25th of May .
Blew it in qualifying - got greedy trying to see how far to run ran a [email protected] on the brakes . Automatic DQ as exceeded the safety requirements , go to cage , firesuit different licence under 11.00
Only difference to previous week was no headwind .
Oh well off to add some weight , weighed it after the 10.99 run 3688lbs with me in it .
These Stealth heads are certainly well worth while
