MP distributor problems. Am I the only one?

Lol! Yeah. Either that or an oversized bushing. One or the other. I can feel a little movement in there. Maybe a little of both.

They have little work ethic after that 23-1/2 hour shift. I did dig down into the lower housing looking for a finger or nail or anything indicating such an incident. The search turned up nothing. I can't say that I am feeling like my $225 purchase was worthy of NAFTA. I am not exactly thrilled to support that.

Problem solved. I don't really wanna talk about it. Moving on to carburetion now.

NOT getting a Holley either.

With all this distributor talk i throw in my friend Tony's adventure with Mopar Performance distributors. He bought a new one that came from Mancini. He bought it up ahead of a motor rebuild in the fall of 2013.We had problems with getting the timing to come in and found the vacuum diaphragm leaking.Because he bought it over a year ago they won't take any responsibility even though it only been on the car for a few months.Tony took it to a distributor guy and he tore it down and found it to be a very poorly built Chinese copy.Supposedly Mancini contracts these pieces direct. The internals were all junk, weak springs, bad star wheel, etc.Stay away from these.

I bought one of Mancinis distributer kits last year also. Only because they told me theirs was an exact copy of the no longer made mp units. It made 5 pulls on the dyno before blowing apart. I raised enough hell with them that they gave me my money back, so I cant complain about Mancini at all. I put a Firecore on my last motor and it is great so far.

I am going to continue using my 30 year old so called Chrysler junk till it no longer works. Absolutely now sense in buying new junk. Also totally surprised no one mentioned lubricating the distributor bushings may have saved the shaft and bushings. Back in 1973 the air gap was changed to .010 per Chrysler bulletin. Both reluctor and pickup lobs need to have sharp edged or surging will occur.

just a note... have you know the MP ( mallory ) dist gets the rotor 90º off from the stock dist and won't match the original number 1 cilinder on cap ? just telling that in case that could be part of the problem
