I truly needed overdrive with the amount of driving I do and the long trips, but the 518 wasn't going to cut it. Silver Sport Transmissions puts together packages for Mopars, and with our future engine goals of upwards of 600+ horsepower, we wanted a transmission built for that kind of power. We got the stage 3 kit, handles up to 700 hp.
Yes, we did have to do a little massaging. They don't have a kit for the 62-65, so we got the 66-72(?) kit and modified the crossmember that comes with the kit, as you can see in the article. It wasn't really too much massaging, but we did R&I the trans about a half dozen times or more. I cruise at 70 and am only turning about 2000 rpm... much nicer than before! The one really good thing that SST did was to ditch the PCS trans controller and switch to the TCI Auto controller. We'll be doing an update in a couple of months to the new controller and I'll post that article. I really don't care for the PCS "Simple Shift"... it's been a lot of problems for me.My brother put a 4l60e into his customers 70 Charger, behind a 572 Hemi. He drove back to the customer, 1.5 hours back on major freeways and he loved the way it shifted and performed. Reasonable rpm's on the freeway too. Even had some fun with a Hellcat Challenger along the way. I believe he had another guy that wanted to do the same thing, another 70 charger. I know he had to "massage" the tranny tunnel a little, just hammer and dolly stuff. And here today you can't get away from it... it's all over the place!I have a 66 Belvedere I /6 auto car with (had) cop car wheels with 225-75's, lowered the car (rear springs were flat anyways) and dialed in lots of camber and lighten the car from 3370 to 2950. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better it drove with just those few mods! It even turned well without sway bars and tired shocks. The car has been apart for several years now and hopefully, will be back together in 2017. In the early 70's when in the military, I entered a 66 Belvedere II with a 383 auto, 391 gears in a slalom and took home the trophy! The car wasn't even set up for it but I guess I was willing to drive harder (and better?) than anyone else in my class. I had always been interested in doing that type of stuff but when I got out of the military, that type of racing just wasn't around.
We went .060 over on the pistons, a 264 cam and some mild porting on the heads. It should have had the 284 cam, but I wasn't about to go and tear it down and replace the cam, and just kept it as is. I was told we expected about 375 horsepower, but it was only about 340 or thereabouts.Very nice setup man, couple of questions, what specs for your poly build. We have the entire suspension installed, Control Freak coilover with 4-link rear. Still need to finish a couple of things up, they didn't finish it in our shop and now I have to tie up all the loose ends. But here's how it sits on the ground now. I'll need to order a new driveshaft, this one is a little short because I went with a 9-inch rearend.

I've looked at both the Street Lynx and the AlterKtion and this setup, while similar (similar that they are coilover/four-link) they are a bit different. The front on this is his new generation kit where he provides the engine mounts/mount brackets, and it's re-engineered a little as well. I went with a power rack and pinion, so the mounting is a little different. I can't wait to try it out, but I have a few things I need to take care of first. Today, I wired the Flaming River Mopar column and got everything working, and just now I fabbed up the steering shaft and joints. The guy in our shop just rant the shaft straight from the column to the rack, but it interfered with the headers and he also cut the shaft too long and damaged the u-joint coupling in the steering. I added a pillow ball and another joint to pull the shaft away from the headers more. Lots of room now that there isn't a big steering box down there!Is the control freak similar to the rms street lynx 4 link. That's the one I ordered, I also got the alterktion front. Hoping it will work well on the track.
The steering lines and the driveshaft are what's holding me up right now. I finished up the steering shaft/joints this weekend, and have most of the wiring hooked back up. I have some patching to do on the car, they didnt' do such a great job cutting and welding for the tubs, I can see pavement from inside the interior in a few places. I'm anxious to start driving it again, and hope to be at Willow Springs in MarchThanks 65, when you get that power rack hooked up your gonna love that. Your cars stance is killer I hope I can be out there joining ya this summer on the track.

I want to drive it hard as hell and not worry about how pretty it is afterwards! lol It works for me as is, and I'll fix things that need fixing as time goes by.Talking with a friend of mine about wheels, he said you don't want people just looking at your wheel but at the car. Your car is a total package.
