Sometimes it's best to find a new tool for problematic areas, are you only using the rigid wooden flat board? An area like that might be better blocked out with a contoured foam board that will conform. At a pinch you can use your own spit as a lubricant....you'd need to get a good hefty lump from the back of your throat.
