My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

I just finished reading this thread all the way through and I must say I am VERY impressed with your work. The best way to learn is to do and seek advice from those that have done it before. I am planning on doing a 67' GTX and I am getting a lot good info from this thread. Keep up the good work and I will continue to follow along.

Man, I was gonna go through and quote everyone's posts about the heart and soul and outstanding work everyone is putting into their builds, but I think I'd be adding another 3 pages to your thread Khan lol. So I'll just second what you said that I'm glad I found this forum with such an awesome group of friends/mad scientists/scofflaws/destroyers of all things rust. You guys make this site a great place to be and I'm looking forward to the fbbo reunion when all our jalopies are finished. Oh and I'm 22 now so I guess that means beers on me lol
:eek:ccasion14:

And yeah you can see with every update how much more comfortable you look with that spark-maker man, everything's coming along great! I was in the same boat as you and many others when I started my project, pretty much zero welding/fab experience, and I know how good of a feeling it is to just jump right in and see yourself improve. You should be proud!

x2 on what KB said, I'd probably stay away from the torch, just zap up those last straggler pinholes and you should be set. Afterwards if you want to smooth any areas maybe a light skim of All-Metal would work well

"Propwash's Planetarium" man that has a pretty good ring to it lol

No Belvedere Update today . . . ( sigh )

Sorry guys, no Belvedere update today, as I spent most of the day fighting with the carport in an attempt to get the ground leveled out and prepared for concrete . . . really want to get that thing done as it's been 2 years since I started it - it rained so much last spring my concreted guy was so backed up with his work that I didn't want to bother him to help me with my parking pad. He's a neighbor - and a good friend . . .

Hopefully . . . pin hole plugging tomorrow ? ? ? ( smile ) Sorry GOON, hope it doesn't slow my car down TOO MUCH ! ! !

Glad to have you aboard JimmyD . . . just roll up your sleeves, like the rest of us, and dig into the 67 GTX ( that's a sharp car ! ! but I'm partial to the 67's ) ( smile )

You'll just have to save weight somewhere else! lol

Thanks Speedy . . . As I've said before . . .I'm just trying to keep up with the rest of you guys ! ! ! ( smile ) . . .

NOTE - I'm going to give the Dillon torch a shot. For those of you that aren't familiar with it, it's a pretty cool torch and it goes by other names such as Henrob, Cobra, DHC-2000 ( look it up on you-tube ) . . . it operates on only 4 pounds of gas pressure, and it's "meant" to be able to keep the heat in a very localized area and "not warp" the panels. Since I'm in my wheel wells, and most people won't see them, I may give it a shot and see how it works . . . I guess it's worth a shot

( Or, I may weld up a test piece - can I make pin holes on demand - and see what happens )

Oh heck . . . here's a link . . .

"pin holes on demand" - FER RACIN' !!!!

LMAO, you really are a Goon

I've got to get one of those, that looks really slick and from all of the gas welding I used to do I know the welds are more workable. Thanks for sharing "I want one".

Got the hinges on my 66 She Box . . .

Got the hood alignment pretty close, got it to close and open pretty smoothly, so it's back on the road and driving again !

Really like the way they look . . . ( smile )

LMAO . . .

Those hinges do look really sharp on your shoebox! Love that style/look! Will you do something similar on the Belvie?

Oh and yes "I really are a Goon!" lmao.... You'll appreciate this one.... I recently stopped seeing the girl I dated for about 8 months. We have remained great friends and now she wants to be my "wingman" and find me someone more compatible so I asked... "how will you describe me to set me up?".... Her answer - " A meathead that loves old cars and his dogs!" lol an accurate description if I do say so myself!!

Have to agree with you there Speedy - that's why I had to get them and install them on ole "blue" ( the 66 Shoe Box ) . . . ( smile )

Original wheel well vs mini tub wheel well . . .

Not sure if this is going to show the difference as well as I'd hope it would, but here's a set of original vs tub wheel wells on my car . . .

Driver side original ( left ) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Passenger side tub ( right )

Hope you can see it . . .

There's a difference alright you have definitely made some room in there.... FER RACIN!!!

I think you may have hit that one on the head USARR . . . might just have to change my ways and get a personalized plate now ! ! ! That's pretty cool ! ! !

Funny . . . got to thinking myself . . . finish up the passenger quarter panel, do the driver side tub ( should go much faster ) then the driver side quarter panel . . . and then the "KHAN"-vertible should be ready to start going back together ! ! ! Can't believe how far I've come ! ! !

Thanks !

What's the plan for the bodywork, are you going to tackle that or farm it out? I like the plate, pretty cool idea USA.
