My 64 Factory EE1 Max Wedge Light Weight

thanks guys. I'm pretty amazed myself. Never would have imagined a real max wedge car would be bought on craigslist. Budnicks.. Darrell Davis keeps the registry and has all the stats on max wedge and race hemi cars. If I counted right... there were 9 dark blue dodge 330 light weight cars made. Which is were I say 1 of 9. 3 of the 9 were 4 speeds. So I guess technically I have a 1 of 3 car. There were 70 HC light weight 2 door sedan max Wedges in 1964 and another 20 hard tops built. total max wedge aluminum front end cars were 90 in 1964. The Race hemi Cars would be in addition to the numbers I just stated.

OK I get it now, dooooogh I thought there were more than 9, your saying "just blue ones" I didn't read it correctly I guess....

View attachment 137003Thanks guys. As I said, I attached a picture of a group of Mopars at US 30 dragway in Indiana. If anyone knows who owned the dark Blue sedan in the second row I would love to find out if that is my car.

Looks to be another dark blue one or Black maybe, in the 3rd row up toward the top of the photo too... good luck with your quest for information... :headbang:

This story reminds me of the guy that had the last 63 SD Tempest for sale on ebay - but didn't know what it was. I watched this event unfold that week and it was amazing. You could almost see the seller passing out to some of the responses in the question part. Also his replies were great. Here is the story -

You forgot to mention that it was your "dear old Dad" that insisted there was still enough of the original package tray left in the car that the number would still be there!!!!! Aren't you glad I pulled the rear window out and took the tin that was pop rivited on off and found the number.....
But congrats anyway.....you scored a great find....

Congrats on finding such a rare time capsule. Hopefully you're up to the task of putting it somewhat back together, it does seem like a pretty daunting task considering that you were just looking for a "gasser" type project. Good luck on your research.

This would make a great Mopar Max article once you get a little further on your quest. Maybe call up Mr. Magnante for some historical advice.

yes that is an awesome find! i remember the day i found my original unrestored lightwieght 1964 max wedge.. greg lane was pretty impressed when he saw it at the spring fling here is so-cal, he had never found an unrestored example before, what makes mine so rare beside never being a drag car is the car was ordered with a padded dash, whitewalls and hubcaps.. mine is vin# 135034 which was the 4th one made for the 1964 line ups and was sold through Mr Norm's on Nov. 23RD 1963
you my friend are a lucky guy to have found one of the very few cars that are left..

OG - thanks for the kind words. I"m amazed at how much Greg Lane and Darrell Davis know about these cars. I'm going to send you a PM with my email address. My car is just a shell, so I have a long ways to go with it. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind taking some pictures of the interior and the engine bay, so I can start finding the right parts. My plan is to try and find some history on it.. Not been so easy.... and put it back to some resemblance of a 64 drag car.

good catch! mines a old ss/e steel nosed car out of kentucky owned by jerry rains.but unlike yours mine started life as a six cylinder car.converted over in late sixtys.it will be a hemi clone when im done.
