It hasn't been a great month of July around here & it's my birthday month... Lost a friend/racing buddy last week, then now My dog "Lord Budnicks" aka Buddy, he got bit by a Rattlesnake yesterday, on his muzzle by his nose, one side of his face was swollen really big... I 1st thought he was stung by a bee, he goes after bees all the time... My sister is a vet, but she lives way up in Portland Oregon, so I called her 1st, she said it could be a snake bit or abscess or even a bee/hornet sting, she told me what to watch out for signs of the snake bit, the flesh on the underside of his mouth will turn black & look bruised... So I gave him Benadral, an antihistamine, thinking that would help with the swelling, thinking it was just a bee/hornet sting, he ended up having to go to the vet today, his whole side of his face was swollen BIG TIME, they told me it was a snake bit & they had to give him intravenously antibiotics & fluids, then also a shot of a steroid, to help bring the swelling down, I hope he will be OK, he's an good OLD DOG 14 y/o now {chocolate lab}, I'm $155.71 the 1st day already, it will be much more I fear, I have had other dogs bitten by snakes, this one didn't look like a snake bite at all, or swell like this did, the vet thought it was a baby rattlesnake probably, because of the small size of the bruising around the effected lip on his right side of his muzzle... I wanted to kill it so bad, I really searched or back yard, under fire wood, under lumber, under my shed, in the area under the trees, under the RV & Boat, under the deck, that all backs up-to a large open hunk of land, of course I found nothing... I know I'm in snake country here, but this is the 1st I've seen or heard of it here in over 7 years now, I should have known, were I lived in the valley in Rancho Murieta, we had snakes galore, but never really here in Sonora, in the foothills... the real "Lord Budnicks" aka Buddy, is hurting right now.... That's Buddy in the photo, in front of his/my RR last year... Has anyone else, had a pet hit/struck by a rattlesnake ??, any good stories ??, any good remedies ??, I tried to load some photos, they won't load... Oh well
