My first car model.

Mom gave me a a box of my own junk and I'm going through it. And wrapped up ever so gently is my first model from about 40 something years ago.

I had a huge collection of those at 1 point in time. Sold everything off just before the model companies reissued most. A friend passed away a while ago. And wouldnt you know it. I ended up with more. A good hobby.

That's cool: Can't remember for sure but pretty sure my first model was a Jo-han 1965 Chrysler 300.

I don’t recall for sure my first model, but I’m sure it was ugly as the first ones I built I brush painted!
I do remember my first model I spray painted, a 72 Mach1.
Sadly I didn’t become a Mopar fanatic until my freshman year in high school.
I got back into model building in the 90s but I ran out of steam about 10 years ago. I’m trying to get back into it this winter. I have dozens of Models on the shelf waiting to get built!

I think my 1st was a 35 Ford PU Hot Rod
(my stepdad Bob had one)
IIRC a 32 Ford Roadster Hot Rod was the 2nd
all primed up, I thought that was cool
IIRC my 3rd was of his/Bob's 64 GTO SS/F, paint sucked
my 1st real attempt
I decal-ed them to the hilt too
about 1966-67, 7-8 years old
I got into the drag cars for a long time, the gasser look
then Pro-stocks & Altereds
then later 4x4's

A hobby shop closed in 1970 I bought 8 model kits and an 1/8 vette. Sold them to a model to a model dealer $400 20 years ago.

My first was an AMT 1961 Imperial convertible. That one and a 1962 Revell Imperial Crown 4 door both got shot up with the BB gun. I made up for it 30 years later when I rescued a real '62 Imperial, and put it back on the road, guy I sold it to finished restoring it. I still have a '69 Charger R/T, a '69 Coronet R/T, and a '70 Jo Han Road Runner, with the original boxes. I tried to buy a '69 Jo Han GTX kit from a high school classmate, who had a catalog (couldn't get them in the local hobby shops). He kept the money and never got me the kit. Twenty years later I drove my first '69 GTX to my high school reunion. The look on the guy's face was priceless.

It's all about the packaging.
Die cast don't require any work.
It could be addictive.
But some are just too memorable to pass on.
"Ages 6 and up".
I guess I qualify.

My first was a 65 coronet, you can't even find one now, unless it's a snap together. Gave them all away this last move.

Bought my 10 year old grandson one of these last Christmas (he’s into legos). I figured it would take him about a week to put it together, it was done in about 3 hours nonstop.
I can’t remember having any car models as a kid. I had planes and ships. The kid across the street talked me into blowing up a ship with a m-80. We didn’t find all the pieces. Got into trouble.
