my new project

does anyone know if the oil pan off the 318 poly will work on the 340. I have the correct pick up for a car pan but not sure if the poly pan will work on the 340. Thanks guys

Get an LA pan, soooo cleap. And you no it will fit. Dont mess with the poly stuff. Also, a 355 gearset with a 26" tire will work awesome with your mild stall

Thanks blazer I will get a la pan but does the 340 take a 318 or 360 pan I was told there is difference. Also I checking on paint for the engine bay I am using a ppg base coat the paint guy I talked to suggested a clear coat called transtar he said it was good and cheaper than the big names. Has anyone used this before thanks.

Well didn't work on the car much this weekend i did get a oil pan for it though. I wanted to try some painting before i painted the engine bay in the polara so i took the plastic off my ninja 1000r that someone painted with a spray can and decided to try on it. The first pic is before i started taking it apart i will also put some on when i get it back together then this week it is time to paint the polara engine bay. I didnt have a paint booth so i sprayed the floor with some water and used some buckets and cardboard this isnt how it is suppose to be done and the polara will be in a paint booth i can use but it wasn't available this weekend. However the paint came out really well for being painted in a shop not very much dirt in it at all and i think most of it will color sand and buff out. Also no runs at all :headbang:

My buddy has a body shop he ran out of a pole barn for years. He did MANY cars for people that were their drive & show cars. I asked him if he was worried about painting in the barn. He said if its a high end job he prefers to shoot it in a booth but if he shoots it in the barn it just means there are more possibilities of having bugs, dust or imperfections to sand/buff out. All paint jobs have orange peel regaurdless of where its sprayed so it just depends on how much work you want to put into it as far as the end result.
So I wouldn't be afraid of spraying in a shop or barn as long as you can wash it down first.
Cheers!

a 318 la pan will fit fine on a 340 they are the same. a 360 pan will not work it is wider. i am not sure about a poly pan just make sure you get a pan and pick up for a car not a truck and good luck to you that is a nice car to have.

The poly pan will fit the 340. I put a 340 pan on my poly

Thanks guys for all the help. Also thanks for complementing on the paint it did turn real nice i everyone that sees it can't believe it was painted in a regular shop. I put a pic after i got the bike back together. Well didn't get anything done on the polara this weekend saturday i helped the wife who is expecting or baby girl in july get the baby room ready. Sunday i was ready to go work on the polara when i got a call about a 39-41 plymouth that was for sale and was going to get crushed if not sold by monday afternoon. So i had to load up the trailer and check it out to make sure this piece of mopar history would not go to waste if nothing else maybe someone could use some parts. I talked to the guy and after 200.00 i brought it home. She doesn't look like much but he had every major body piece to it rear fenders hood and trunk it was taken apart as project that never went anywhere not sure what i will do with it but at least it wasn't crushed.

Well i haven't wrote in awhile the polara is coming along i replaced a rust spot on the inner fender and re primed and am sanding the primer now.My wonderful grandpa who got me started in classic mopars asked for a favor he wanted me to go help pick up a 57 desoto he use to own. We went and got the car and now the polara will have to wait until i get the desoto running for him. It shouldn't be to bed just sat for about 10 years i plan on draining the fuel tank rebuilding the carb fluid changes abd replacing all the hoses and belts i will add some more pics of the polara progress and desoto

I agree, Very cool looker.. Good luck getting her up and running!

Well it's been to long since i posted been real busy. Had a new baby girl a couple months ago so she has been getting alot of attention lately lol. Well i sold my bike and 39 plymouth to focus more on the polara my buddies and i are adding on to my little one car shop at my house so i can have more room to move the car there instead of at my dads. I used the cash from my two sold rigs for the building materials also bought a wood heater for the shop so i can keep working all winter. I have removed both front fenders to have blasted and fix rust on the passenger upper part. I have not quit working on the car as i hope to drive it this coming summer.

great save on the Plymouth. LOve that Desoto! and nice Polora project! Keep plugging away. Real life gets in the way, bu time will come for the car.
and you'' like the 340. I had a '73 road runner with a tired 340, and it still had plenty of power.

congrats on the baby! There will be lots of kids stuff to keep you busy....you'll find time for the car as well I'm sure. Keep us updated

Yes sir! Congrats on the new baby girl!! Wish you luck getting your Polara resto going again..

Well sold my 340 to help fund the polara project so now i will be using a 360 magnum i have already and will be attempting to use the fuel injection. I have the harness and computer all from a 95 ram so its obd1 and should not be to hard. Also have been working on the passenger fender as you can see in pic it has rust where it is spot welded to the inner fender i will be cutting this out and welding in new metal.

I have a 318 from a 89 truck i bought and have seriously thought about going back to the truck and if he will sell what ever is needed to use it in my car i would maybe try it in my 73. im on uncharted waters in knowledge with the injection next to the carb ive used for 3 decades +. if i were to go back and buy it whats a price thats right, i trust this guy to the point i wouldn't buy the engine until i heard it run and not knowing the worth of the harness and computer don't want him getting the best of me. The 360 sounds like it will do you fine. thanks for the update.
