My new TransBrake Launch Video

Far be it from me to question John Calvert on how to set up his design, but #2 on those shocks seems completely backwards to me. I run the full Calvert setup and the tighter I run the shocks, the quicker it leaves (so I run them at full stiff - #9). Now I understand I'm footbaking and not making nearly the power you are Mike, so things will be different. But watching those videos, I tend to agree with Tex and Doug. Looks like you need way more control on the extension.
(My 2-cents only)

Tex...yes....the tires are getting crushed and is wobbling up and down and I think the tires really just wants to come completely off the rim....LOL...
I do NOT have double adj shocks and no budget for them now.
I have Cal Trac 9 Way Adjustable set on soft #2 which is what the Cal Trac Tech tells me to do.
John Calvert looked at the video also and said he wanted the car to lift like that and said that when I get the stiff sidewall Hoosier tires it should solve the crushing problem and get my 60' times down where they should be.
The tires are being crushed because the shock is to loose. Tighten them up. Watch here, this car is similar to yours. Look how much better we made it. This is with 9x28 slicks, so even smaller.

With my 9 way RR Cal Trac shocks (set on soft2 ), Cal Trac MonoLeaf RR Springs, Cal Trac Bars, Cal Trac 90/10 front shocks (non adjustable) John Calvert told me the rise UP is what he wanted....He said just get a stiff sidewall to stop crushing the tire.

Doug ... and LemonWedge..I hear what you are saying .... Calvert tells me to run full stiff ( setting 9) on the rear shocks for foot-braking but to put them on 2 for a transbrake.

I will further test and tune when I get my new Hoosier 29" tall stiff sidewall tire on the car.
Thanks for the input.
Mike

Mike ,
I ran the ranchos at 8 and 9 , full tight . This was to control the hit . But i run radial pro bracket , hoosier 275's .
I recently bought Viking dbl adjustables . Way better launch and control. I now have softer rebound and tighter compression .
Price was pretty good too , though it near doubles by the time it arrives down here .
Keep at as i am interested in your results , still waiting for my new trans .
What button are you using ?

John is a sharp guy for sure. I sat down with him for an hour at Norwalk, he was great. I would ask him again. Makes no sense to me if you're going to hit the tire harder with the brake (with no suspension preload) that the rebound settings would be looser. The shock controls the timing of the extension. With a foot brake the suspension is loaded and already extended. There is less housing movement. Therefore it may need a looser setting to hit the tire quicker with a foot brake.

Doug...got this response...I will talk to them again...thanks, Mike

What trans and transbrake are you running? Where did you get it and price?
Complete transmission from A&A with all the good parts, including trans brake, steel billet drum, etc etc....$3800 delivered to my door in CA, including frt, crate charge, core charge, everthing.

LEMON...You are right with #9 for footbrake...that is what Calvert recommends for foot braking. They recommend #2 loose for trans brake.

Very cool! I can watch those videos all day! I've always wanted a car that could lift the front tires like that.

Here is a video of my car with a trans brake launch. If I were you I would try a light weight radial slick. I run the 30x9 radial Hoosier slick that most stockers use. I run 21 lbs of air pressure and in this video the low end of the 2 step is at 3400rpm. My car is 3555# with me in it.

RacerAL is your trans brake on the dash ??

Noticed that too, I’ve seen quite a few guys lately running the brake on the dash

I have mine up on the dash as well. I seen one that was mounted vertically by the shifter. The fellow moved it after he launched once and his elbow grazed the button after launching. The car came down faster than it went up.

I’ll keep that in mind! Hoping to get my hands on a cope CRT-8 trans brake 727 soon

Yes my button is mounted on the dash. I fabbed up a bracket and mounted it to the dash. But actually I have two different buttons that can be used it just depends on what type of racing I'm doing. If I'm going off the bottom bulb like in the video I use the button on the dash. If I'm using the delay box I use a button that is mounted beside the delay box.
