My power steering box started leaking last year from around the sector shaft adjusting screw/lock nut. This year I went and got an o-ring to try and put under the nut to try and solve the problem.
As i was tightening the nut down I got the dreaded " loose turn" feeling I thought I had stripped the screw or nut. NOPE! Even better I cracked the housing cap!!!
Well out comes the box. I have included some pictures of the damage. And parts that I have.
One thing I noticed now that I have everything apart is the lock nut, has a flare to it, and the inside of the housing has a flare to it, but they are in opposite directions !! I found that very odd, how is that supposed to seal anything ??
I also looked at the seal that is around the bottom of the housing, it almost doens't look like the right seal? It looks very loose fitting, and doesn't seem to be thick enough to seal anything once its installed? This is probably why I had to take it back when it was rebuilt 5 years ago . When I got it back from the rebuild , it leaked right around larger the locking ring, I took it back and it was fine until last year when I got the new leak.
I have a new seal kit coming , it supposed to come with a new lock nut, and i will have a new seal for that one that looks like its a bit sloppy on the bottom of the "housing "
So I am in the search of new housing cap , I thought about about trying to weld it???
The rest of the box is leak free, so I really am trying to avoid getting an entire new box.
THoughts?? Suggestions??? Anyone have one of the caps I am looking for !???
