My soon to be '65 Belvedere I (real) barn find!

It just goes to show you how people will act when a family member dies or gets bad sick. The other family members had their chance to either fix up or sell the cars. They probably found out how much you paid for them & have been watchin too much Barrett/Jackson. I would think long & hard about it & dont make a decision based on pity cause it could be some sort of trick.

If it'll make her happier to trade for the road runner...and it's not junk, then you may as well.

After 50 years of dealing with people I try to always remember that no good deed goes unpunished! Some one is up to no good and they think they can make a quick $. I am a fan of the 2dr. post cars and wouldn't trade that 65 for for the runner. It is more rare than the runner if it is an original big block car there were only about 1000 made including hemis, 383, 426, and 361's.

I agree with pushrod. Like the Road Runner but the post car is cool. Something just don't add up with the story of grandma kicking a 3 year old out.Either car is cool, but I'd hold what I got.

Thanks for the replys and they have made me think on the situation more. My gut tells me that this is not a made up story on her part. Death in a family can really bring out strang emotions, even if it was years ago. One of her brothers builds coffin coffee tables so who knows where his mindset is.

I would rather keep the '65 but will trade for the RR. She's sent me the VIN and it is a real RR, RM23H9G304XXX. She's supposed to get me a picture of the fender tag. I don't know what I'll do with the RR after that.

The biggest hangup right now is getting the cars swapped. I've already told her that she will have to bring the car to me to do the swap. I won't go to her moms place and have to deal with the brothers.

Hopefully this will get resolved soon!

The '65 Belvedere I 2dr sedan (post) is easily the rarer car:

1969 Roadrunner: 48,500+ hardtops (82,000+ total)

1965 Belvedere I: 12,500+ 2 dr. sedans (as compared to 25,000 Belvedere II 2dr hardtops (which is my gold car) and 23,000+ Satellite hardtops)

I'd rather not trade either, and certainly don't have to legally, but will to get this over with.

I'd think long and hard before doing the trade!!!!! There's some thing not right with the story! If it was truly given to her by her dad, then she will have to live with the deal she agreed too!If you do trade! It wouldn't surprise me to see it up for sale.DON'T DO THE TRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would look the road runner over very well, and make sure it;s as good as the Belvedere. No major issues. And make sure the title is clear, and get it in your name that day.

Well, the nightmare is over...for the most part. The '65 went back and I got the '69 Roadrunner yesterday. I traded the car back and will give her the difference of $3k when I sell my '56 Chevy or '65 Belvedere II. I changed the title today so there is no going back for her.

So now for the roadrunner...
The car has not been registered since '97 and probably not started much. Found the broadcast sheet in the glovebox so bonus! Body is in very good shape. Interior is pretty good with one rip in the back seat and the dash having 1 small crack. The gauge are looking worn and plastic looks weathered. We actually got it to start by gravity feeding it out of a gas can. Will pick up all new tune up parts tonight, throw on a new electric fuel pump, and see what it does.
It is currently a 4spd but was a console (with woodgrain inserts) auto, the shifter is a Hurst. Very sloppy so not sure where the gears are. Was R4 Performance Red by code and you can see it in the trunk area. The hood is a beat up fibreglass hood so I will probably be looking for an original airgrabber hood as that was also on the tag. Need hood hinges and latch. Not sure about the codes for stripes but it was a spring addition?
More to come including pictures and probably time to start a new thread as the title is way off now.

sounds like you got a good runner. But I'm not so sure on the $3k after the crap that buch put you thru. So did Momma let her and her kid move back in?

Well, I figure $6k for the Roadrunner total was about 1/2 price. As for her getting to move back in, I don't know. That family has definitely got issues. :confused5:

Looking pretty good so far. I like the old school slotted aluminum wheels.

I think you did good(but I just may be biased). but that hood would look better on my car...

looks good, like the blue.I did notice the decal on the door was behind the emblem, did someone do something on the car at one time in the past?

roadrunnerman, Mine was a R4/R4 with black vinyl top and white pinstripes (a spring addition). I posted this about it in another thread in the 66' - 70' (?) heading about spring addition RR's:

Thanks CoronetRTguy. Deciphering the fender tag and broadcst sheet is a real experience. Here is the fender tag:

I'm really interested in getting back to the R4 red with the black vinyl top. It's one of my favorite color combos. I also found out yesterday that the engine is actually a 65' 383. Another challenge will be to find the airgrabber hood. This is how it looks currently:
