Need a little help with a non B-Body Mopar

I was gonna' say check out http://www.ForTrucksOnly.com
cranky beat me to it
lots of cool truck guys there too,
a few from here & other of Joeys forums visit that site
the vintage dodge truck section is sort of slow compared to here
but some great info, friendly & knowledgeable people nonetheless...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_D_Series#1965.E2.80.9367

IMO $2000 out here is a great price for a mostly rust free mid 60's
"second generation" D-Series 1965-1971 D-100 truck,
IMO & I think fleestsides/sweptline {Adverturer upscale ?}
are more popular
also "I think they are more expensive"
than the step-sides too...
So "Just Maybe" you may be able to get it at a great price...

you could also try www.autabuy.com
enter Dodge d-100 {2wd} 65 to 1971 year range
or even w-100 {w=4x4}
or any other criteria etc.,
you can see what some are trying to sell them for
some are unrealistic prices & some are reasonable,
they "were" the red headed stepchild of pick-ups,
until about 5 years ago, they are going up in value,
many thought they were the Ugly Ducklings of p-u's,
not me I love them...

Finally getting some much needed respect !!
I've owned a couple 66-70's among many other years of
Dodge P-U's, mostly W-series Power Wagons thou,
they are more for sure...

My bucket list is to build {custom} sort of a 69-70 Dude tribute
but in a short-bed version, maybe newer contemporary drivetrain,
EFI w-O/D trans, low, nice interior, nice wheels etc., not over the top
just nice drivable/dependable, clean resto-mod...

Thanks for the info Budnicks! He did not call last night, so I will see if he calls today. If not, I will go see him Friday morning, and if nothing else, get the story on the truck and see if I am even still interested. I hope it works out. I like the truck and I would like to rescue if from the packrats!!!

IMHFO You need to liberate that puppy Bart......that is a keeper!! 2K is easy peasey. I wouldn't take the chance of offending Him by lo balling with a set figure,,,,just ask if He's willing to go down. Even if the engine is seized or trans bad, I can't really see You dinging Yourself bad @ 2K.
I was looking at an 84 Lazy Daze C lass C(in 2002), high end rig, for 1500.00. On phone I asked if He would drop.....He huffed never mind, not for sale now & hung up on me.

I looked back here and remembered reading something...
You opened the hood of a truck that was not yours? The owner was not around? That just isn't right, man. You don't have the right to touch another persons property without permission. I'm sure you wouldn't want a stranger to walk up to your car and open the door sit in the seat, play with the steering wheel or shifter.
In the 80s we had a neighbor that would come over to our house and do this. My Dad sold GM cars and was allowed to drive cars home from the lot. This idiot neighbor felt entitled to his behavior because the car wore the plastic dealer plates. My Dad came out one day to see the guy (Who drove a Volvo) with the hood open and sitting in the driver seat. Dad told the guy to GTFO of the car and said it with meaning. The clueless idiot acted as if he had done nothing wrong at all. Keep in mind this was the type of guy that would pick his nose while talking to people face to face.
People have complained about kids or adults messing with their cars at car shows. Others have mentioned guys like Galen Govier opening hoods or moving dash covers to get a look at VINs or fender tags. This is equally offensive.
I have stood close, looked underneath and peered inside but never touched a car unless it looked abandoned.
I can understand being anxious about the truck. We have all been in that position. You have to respect other peoples property though.
Good luck with it.

Blade! Thanks for weighing in. Ok guys, I spoke with the owner, and this is the story. He bought the truck 2.5 years ago at an auction in Colorado for 1k and drove it to Phoenix where his brother owns an automotive shop. While there they did and engine (318) rebuild as well as the 4 speed trans. They did a master cylinder, alternator and carb rebuild. He did the interior as well and did a red oak bed, but accidentally stained it with interior stain. All that work was done 2.5 years ago and has 300 to 400 miles on it. He lives in Tucson and has a bunch of cars and bikes including a 2000 Viper with 50k miles on it. His wife got on him about too much stuff around the house, so he drove the pickup down to Green Valley where he does medical imaging among other locations in Tucson. The pack rats have taken up residence under the hood. He has trapped them and driven them 2 miles away and let them go and they keep coming back (he painted the tail on one to test the theory).

He is going to look for the title this weekend and we plan to exchange money and title on Monday morning. He is going to bring a leaf blower for the nest on Monday and after that is dealt with, I will drag it home and see what I have. I am going back to where the truck is this afternoon and get a good pic of the rat nest and some pics of the interior and bed to share with you all. He says a new battery and fresh fluids is all it should need (plus any wire damage from the rats), so we will see!!! Not sure if I am going to keep it (I want to) due to storage issues, but I am going to rescue this truck for me, my buddy Carl, or we may advertise it if neither of us can keep it. FYI, he says it is a 64, but I believe it is a 65 or 66. It used to be yellow and he hated that so he had Maaco paint it black.

Ok guys, I am buying the truck. I will pay and pick it up Monday and drag it home. My wife is not thrilled, but hey, at least it is not another woman, right???? Here is a link to a short video of this truck.

Thankfully, the owner said he would clean the rat nest. He mentioned bringing his leaf blower.

Oh, the cylinders on the firewall are the master cylinder. He mentioned having them made because he could not find one to buy.

An industrial vacuum would be wiser. Blowing all the fine **** dust around will permeate the whole truck.

I am not that kind of person Kern Dog. I had permission to open the hood. When I took the video, the owner told me where the keys were in his office in Green Valley, and one of his co-workers opened the truck for me. I told the owner exactly what I was going to do and he was all good with it. I understand where you are coming from, but that is not me, I asked first.

Both are brakes?

I believe so Blade, like a reservoir for the front and rear brakes like most cars, but just in 2 pieces. And I agree with the vacuum idea, but it is his truck, so I will defer to him. Trust me, when I get it home, I will be doing a major cleaning. I frickin' HATE rodents!

Thanks for responding, Bart.
I thought it seemed a bit out of character. Your explanation makes sense. Personally, I have been in situations where I was so excited about seeing a car I liked, my decorum and manners were temporarily forgotten. Since I was in my late 20s, I smartened up about respecting peoples property.
Thank you again, Greg.

No worries Greg, what you mentioned is a good reminder for all of us!

Here is some guidance from the Center for Disease Control:

https://www.cdc.gov/rodents/cleaning/guidance-cleaning-vehicle.html

Please note:
"To avoid generating potentially infectious aerosols, do not use a vacuum cleaner or sweep rodent urine, droppings, or contaminated surfaces until they have been disinfected. Also, do not use “power wash” high-pressure sprayers to soak or dislodge nests or droppings."

Congratulations Bart, that is a BAD *** TRUCK!! Even though it's not a B body, I really hope that you will keep us posted on your progress.
