Was chasing down an electrical fault on my ‘73 Road Runner this Sunday. Car engine would suddenly shut off intermittently. Found a loose fusible link and repaired it only to see it start to fry. The number A1 circuit at the firewall (slot number 16) luckily burned through at the blade end of the connection before it got ugly, but, the intermittent fault had now been fused. It now showed a constant ground fault.

After spending the rest of the day taking the electrical system methodically apart, I found the fault at the ammeter. The input post was loose at the ammeter and was grounding in the dash frame. Connections were all tight except for the mounting nut at the base of the stud. I guess this little bit of play was enough to eventually start to ground out the A1 circuit.

so now I need a new ammeter..... anyone out there have one?

thanks.

They can be fixed and even reinforced and upgraded for a better conduction and isolation

I atually did something similar on a couple of ammeters before find this link, but just adding lead on original studs to the internal shunt to get them solded.

Once paths and alternator are upgraded the heat on ammeter won’t be a problem anymore to melt the lead.

the isolation sheets are available at... performance car graphics I think

I can't believe I did it. I moved this thread to a sale thread and fixed the title. Next time you need parts (the staff and other members here that follow the guidelines of this fine site) please start a wanted thread. I usually delete these threads and have the member start a thread in the correct forum. Thanks and good luck with your gauge search. I posted this to let you know what I did and why I did it. We try our best to keep this place running smooth.

great! Thanks. I’ll try to remember.

Here it is, if you still want it, I'll box it up. As you can see, a piece of the insulation broke off.
