Can anyone identify what this part is? My dad replaced the engine & light harness while i was deployed and I have no idea what this is, the quick release terminals & wires were completely fried and melted together. Its from a 72 charger SE with a/c. I don't want another electrical fire so any help would be awesome!!

I believe it's the blower relay, those wires should go to the blower motor.

Just one more note, If you pull the two bolts on the firewall there, that should be the blower resister.

Thanks for the help, this car's wiring is total chaos, most of it is burnt or disconnected and some of the wiring harness was from 1975. The previous owner also dropped a 100 amp alternator in it which is what i believe caused a nice little electrical fire.... so I'm sorting out that mess too.

That is the “control module/thermal switch” for the NOx system. On a ’72, the NOx system was California only. Likely other components of that system are disabled or non-functional, I would disregard, run the vacuum advance line straight from the carb, if not already.

The original engine was a 400 police interceptor and the guy i got the car from said he blew it running nitrous. So i can yank that puppy out and be done with it??

I have(had) the Cali spec emissions on my 72 RR & it has that relay. Mine is disconnected also.

The NOx system, when intact, basically blocked or delayed the vacuum advance under certain ambient air temps and low vehicle speeds. Would have been a solenoid valve in the vacuum line between the carb and distributor. As mentioned, likely already removed, you can remove the control module without any adverse effects. To be on the safe side, I would however create a blocking plate to cover the hole into the plenum chamber.
