Need to open up my outside rear wheel well a little

that should have said farther not father {like I posted}..LOL

yep I'm a little twisted too...

Yeah....you'd wanna tread carefully there....don't want to upset anyone

Lets go superstockracer. Get your hands dirty and shove that bad boy in there and start rolling. The father the better.

Well I started shoving the baseball bat far up the opening and started twisting like crazy. I am now over inflating the slicks and leaving it over night to see if it worked. cross your fingers. I need 1/4" on each side now. No more spacers too.

Sorry for the late reply,,,,
I did it the same way as suggested (start at the front and roll the car backwards while lifting lightly on the batt handle). It's just a feel thing, and closely watching the panel as you do it....

yep !!

I think I got one side done now. I have to switch the tires and make sure I didn't shift the car and have less room on the other side. Damn it's cold outside.

OK ,on to the other side and it's looking good. I like the look of 5" backspacing better than 6". Rolling the bat like crazy and leaving it there overinflated for a few hours in each spot seems to be working.

You do realize that the outer wheel house is just as close as the fender lip. You can trim the lip but the outer wheel house will still interfere unless the rear end is up pretty high.

Wheel lip is out farther than the outer wheel house. the tire does not come close to the wheel lip.
The bat trick seems to be working out pretty good so far. A little more and it should be fixed. Didn't want to try and use the hammer.

That's great!!! I'm not sure about the inner wheel house vs lip comments.... Mine doesn't come close to touching anything inside the wheel house area,,, but would rub the lip when making any turns while going faster than 20mph or so... (just a guess on the speed).

Well you were right Doug,as usual.
Lowered the car down on all 4's and the tire rubs. Bottom edge is fine but upper wheel house is right up against the tire. 5" bs is more problems than its worth. Should of just beadlocked my original wheels.
Put on old rims and going to get the axle tubes cut on Friday or going to try a tool that the chassis shop has. Rear might have to go in the jig.
The rear and tire sits low in the wheelhouse and the car is NOT tubbed.

yep the wheel well tapers to a bit narrower at the middle-top
if the tire goes up in the wheel well allot,
I thought you actually already knew that & just wanted clearance at the openings
or to not have a sharp edge at the opening etc.

guess there wasn't very good communication on what was really needed

too big
wide of a tire
or the wrong wheel width
or wrong offset/backspacing,
simple logic would dictate that

I know guys who've used a bottle jack with or a hyd. porta-power a 2x or
something to span the area a bit,
side to side to push it out evenly, widen it up some,
inside the wheel wells to open them up slightly too
you have to be careful use something to back-up support the inside,
not to push the crap out of the backside of the wheel well...
Seen it done with heat & the bottle jack too,
but wouldn't probably do that in or near a finished painted area...
It's by far, nowhere near the best thing to do but, worked in a pinch too

good luck either way

Any tricks to gain about 1/8" on the outer wheel lip. just got new wheels with a 5" backspace and it's so freakin close but not hitting, inside has plenty. I think going around a turn, its going to rub.

Me too, but I want to change to 5" AS I got beadlocks now with 5" BS and want to use them.

USE the word Logic loosely Budnick.
it was the right width but the wrong BS. I knew it going in but figured if I remoed the rer wheel spacer, it would fit. Well that was not the case. This will be fixed tomorrow, one way or the other.

Even if I have to pull the rear out tomorrow while its up on the lift, I'll remove all the guts cut the axle tubes 5/8" of an inch on each side, and reweld the ends with a jig. I'm going to make these wheels fit. So then both cars will have the same BS so I can switch wheels when I want to.

I agree this sounds like the proper plan.

I had the same problem, but with a bigger tire/wheel combo. I used a electric cutoff wheel and cut the lips down...put a little touch up paint of the bare metal and problem solved...dont let them rub and cut your tire...dont drive it till you get the lips cut down. I marked the lip with a magic marker to tell me where and how much to cut. I just cut out in 2 places where the tires "bulge out" and didnt cut in the middle of the lip because that is where the wheel is and it didnt rub there.

I've seen Chip Foose take a 2x4 and pry the fender out on Overhaulin', can't remember which show, but it worked.

Wheel wells all opened up. Only way was to use this stretching pump that Jimmy had at Vignogna Racing Engines. Had to try it in 4 different places and stretch them about 5/8" on each side. But no more rubbing.

And it got 4 new tires and wheels too.
