Sounds like you checked it out pretty thoroughly...always wondered about those shows on TV. I guess nothing is free, and the downside is usually the time taken and the inconvenience.The original house was an unlivable neglected wreck and there was absolutely nothing worth salvaging from that dump. Late last year, we did have the local fire department do some practice work on it; chopping holes in the roof and smashing walls before it was demolished.

We looked into it, but the entire floor structure was rotted and bug eaten. In reality, there were only a few halfway decent beams on the upper level. We looked into barn salvagers, but the problem is that they would have to take the structure apart piece by piece to get at the few good pieces of wood. The kicker is that they would charge us to take it down and it would take weeks for them to take it down whereas the excavator did the job in two hours. We have salvaged a bunch of granite posts and sill pieces from the barn and we will use at least 4 of them at the entrances of the two driveways (circular driveway).
