Hey Guys,

Need your help figuring out why I dont have a spark ( I have also posted on ignition/electrical) wanted to know what you all think too.

1970 RR 383 4spd with Electronic Ignition.

Yesterday the car needed a jump for some reason the battery was dead? (drove it last 2weeks ago with no issues). The car started and ran but once I took off the jumper cables it died (Maybe an alternator?). The bigger problem is when I tried to jump again it would not start., then I checked for spark at the plug and nothing. I immediatley changed the resistor thinking this is the common issue and checked the coil but no spark. I tested the coil by pulling the coil wire and turning on the key and grounding the neg- side to see if I would get a arch to ground and I did but it was very weak. I changed the coil with a new one still very weak spark?????? I decided to put an extra plug on the end of the coil and ground to see the spark and nothing??

Next i pulled the #2 plug and watched as the car was turned over no spark. I'm starting to think that I may have a bad distributor?? What do you guys think??

Thanks

I would try another ignition box. Those darn things can be fickle at times and go without warning. In most cases if it's not the ballast, it's the box.

Quick test.Need a fully charged Battery.....cranking the engine, the ignition switch sends voltage to the coil +. So "rig" your meter to the coil +...should be 12 to 10.5......If ok test the resistor with the below index.....If ok pull dizzy & check reluctor gap .008 feeler gauge(Brass), pull connections inspect & clean dizzy & ECU..... 1volt @ relluctor...Then change ECU...
