most of us have been there, and we all feel your pain.......we just went through it 6 months ago...... those of us without kids take it extra hard......... so sorry for your loss...... 13 years is a good, long run........ I get bummed just typing this........Raven is waiting to play with Chase.......RIP

not everyone handles it the same; but the house was so empty, we got a puppy 2 weeks later..... Rebel is not a "replacement", but the beginning of a new era....... in hindsight, it was the best thing I could have done. He makes everything better!

Just like Eleuthera says- lost Sammy in Dec.,Riley in June; 13 yr old Lily is left and the wife says that's it no more can't stand it after 40+ of losing them. Month later we take in a 7yr Golden that has been outside the whole time, heck he won't even go up&down stairs in the split-level. Well 2 weeks later it's like he's been here for the previous years. I guess all of us are just glutens for people punishment! You love them while you can!!!

Amen to all the above! We're heading that way too with our 14 yr old Lab/Hound mix.
Don't really want to put him down but don't like seeing him suffer and yelp from the pain.
While my wife says "no replacement" (to go with our other much younger Husky mix), guess who keeps showing me Facebook pics of cute pups!

Well shorty, their pain threshold is way higher than ours,just saying. When they yelp it must hurt pretty bad.....

Our Lab is fourteen and becoming legless. It's only a matter of time, but he's damned allert and still a good boy. He just leaks a little and we medicate him for that. Best dog we ever owned. We have two ankle biters but they just don't measure up to a big silly dog.

I'm sorry. My thoughts are with you. I too have had to do this, but only once. I will carry the grief of that day with me to my grave.

Again, thank you all! Still sucks for sure and I know it won't go away anytime soon. I also know many of you have been here before as I've seen in previous posts and seen here and I feel with you guys as well.

For those of that have posted here that are going to be there soon, my best wishes are with you guys and I hope there will be some comfort in knowing that it is the right thing to do, as we can't let our buds suffer! That is the one thing I'm hanging on to.

Now life goes on and I have to go watch football film from yesterday's scrimmage where we kinda stunk! Some good things but some no so good things too.

The thing with dogs is their unconditional love for us, something we often don't get from even our closest family members. Look at it this way...the grief we suffer from their loss is offset by the joy they brought while they were with us.
