when I was building boats/engines the other tech was assembling a fomula 1 omc V8 outboard bolted to a car engine stand. I told him don't do it like that stand it on the bench,he said he'd been doing a lot longer than me!
When the boat was ready for a lake test the shop owner and myself took the boat for it's maiden ride 26 stoker tunnel. we just cleared the harbour and i was at the transom listening to the engines and I told him to shut the starboard off something doesn't sound right!
took the boat back to the shop and pulled the heads on the motor the next day,low and behold there was a needle from the rod bearing in there, messed up the bore, piston, head but second effort in florida exchanged the block no charge. needless to say build them standing up when your dealing with a 100 needle bearings at least they fall on the bench where you can see them!
didn't matter in the long run 2 kids stole the boat a couple weeks later from the guys cottage ran it up on shore across the lake at 80 mph!
