Oil shooting out of Dipstick?

I bet the old pump let most of the old fuel into the crankcase. How do u fit the inline filter between the carb & pump cuz the rubber line is short. Any pics? Can I upgrade the metal fuel line between carb & pump?

IMO,
The fuel contamination is probably pump failure. I would disconnect and plug the fuel line going in to the pump before I try to run the engine from a remote tank and pump (elec.). You'll just fill the crankcase with fuel again if you don't.

Yes, prob a bad fuel pump leaking gas to the bottom end. About the only way to get that much fuel in there. To mount an in line fuel filter, Start at the fuel pump outlet, run a line to where you can mount the filter. Then from the filter, simply run a line to the carb inlet. I use flexible fuel hose, then hook it to metal line with hose clamps. You can use any combination of metal fuel line and fuel hose to get from the pump to the filter then to the carb. A tubing cutter is about the only way to cut the metal lines. The black hose can be cut with a knife.

I run 2 fuel filters, one before the fuel pump, 1 after.

Take the old rubber hose off and take it to your local auto parts store so you can ensure you are getting the correct size (it should be 5/16 fuel hose). It's cheap and they sell it by the foot. Buy enough to install the filter and have extra left over to draw fuel out of a gas can.

What's the story on the fuel you're using?
Existing fuel in the tank? Added fuel? What??

Fuel will only last in useable condition for so long. Truth be told, hard to swallow fuel still in fluid form, after 20 years!

Just talking common sense here, trying to help. If things smell foul as you say....

True, id say whatever fuel was left is gone nowbsince draining the crankcase. It didnt have much in it to start with.

That could be a big help, having a small amount of fuel in the tank. Unfortunately, the fuel wound up in your oil pan. Pan should be pretty clean, now.
You've replaced the fuel pump, right?

What carb? Just curious...doesn't matter. Same deal. Thinking the float(s) is leaking. You can get a carb overhaul kit, that will even have new float seats and valves, not that much costs. But, I'd at least pull the top off the carb, and look. Don't remember what years, but many carbs started using some kinda 'foam' float, for lack of a better term. They could get soaked with fuel, like a sponge, and in short...stop floating. That would keep the bowl valves wide open.

The motor itself 'could' be okay. But, I would get and use a oil priming rod. Not only priming, but to flush fresh oil through the motor, by hand. Even rotate the motor, by hand, one turn, and prime some more, just to push the bad oil out. Then, drain it. New oil filter, and oil, prime again. Of course, not until you've gotten the fuel leak fixed.

That's the best chance to get it back up. How many miles on the motor?

Should have plenty of good miles left on the motor.

As khryslerkid says, rebuild kit should be easy to find. Easy to go through a 2 barrel. Not that many parts to deal with. Chance it just needs to be cleaned up, a few parts, and check the settings.

Hope it gets you going!

360 right? those old holley 2 bbl's on the 360's back then were a pain! nothing at all like the 2 bbl on the 318. Dako is on the right track with getting it going with a fuel can and fresh fuel, at leastr you will know what you have. if that carb has been sitting for 20 years it is going to be a pain to get it cleaned out right you will need to soak it really well!

Buy a gallon can of carb dip.....and don't get it on you. STANKY stuff, but cleans out the carb parts well.

....seriously, that crap reeks dude. Get on on you and you'll smell worse than a dead skunk taint.

Hey : I M O , I,d replace the fuel pump 1st , then pull , # 3 & 4 plugs put some marvel mistery oil in them 2 cylinders and let em soak 24- 48 hours , then crank it over to pump the oil out , put the plugs in, change oil & filter , then the trannie fluid & filter , fire it up , put some miles on it , it's possible that the rings r just stuck from sitting for twenty + years ! and the rubber is shot on the fuel pump , that could b why there's so much fuel in the oil pan , that would b my plan of action before I did anything else ! ! !
