I wish this happened to me or to some of you guys that the Chrysler factory( not a dealer) restore my coronet, this cute old lady got her old vw beetle restored at the vw factory in Puebla, Mexico, a dream come true, as far as I know not a single factory restore your old car.

My son has a interest in cars this was and is his pick. He drives it daily . It was a point of making sure he could have fun with it and learn the mechanics of it.

 thanks before I went into the army I used cut them up and use Meyers Manx bodies and build dune buggy's with Corvair engines

Great cars for people who want to keep them stock and go slow. Brought home a 71 Super Beetle from Germany when I got out of the military. Ended up hating that car. Mileage sucked because I drove it hard. Hell, had to drive it hard just to keep up with traffic around here. Then you have the people trying to run over you. People in Vegas gave it a hard time even! Add to that, I was working on it way too much for a car with only 30k miles on it! Not even going to mention the heater in it. After a year and a halve, that was it for me. Sold it and even after that, it came back like a bad penny! The guy that bought it said it needed a valve job. Dang, just did one not that long ago. Tried to give the guy a C note to get rid of him but he wanted me to do the valve job. Ok. Never saw him again after that thank God. Found me a 72 Challenger 340 rallye and never looked at another VW!

Great story!! Thanks for sharing, made my day!!

My first car was a 57 VW. Ive owned several. I had a 62 that I was driving on the expressway flat-out at maybe 50-60 and threw a con rod through the side of the block. I towed it home unbolted the engine and removed it by stacking tires under the engine and letting the engine fall on that.
Put it in mostly the same way.
That was a great story and thanks to the OP for posting

took one for a spin once, actually more like a walk, that was enough to convince me never to spend a dollar on one

There's a connection between vw and Chrysler at least in the 50's here in Mexico, both companies build their cars in a generic factory at that time, the automex factory, later vw start to build what become one of the biggest car assembly plant in the world here in puebla, and Chrysler bought the automex factory, becoming the toluca assembly plant.

Mexico was the last country in the world where the vw beetle was produce (until 2004) the last vw 1'st gen is in the factory museum in Germany, one of the last was given to the Pope John Paul the second.

Built a few VW motors in my time. The opposed 4's are a great design. I've seen them built into 10 second 1/4 mile cars! 440'

Too gear BBC did a thing about a cheap car across the desert!
The guys all bought some pile of junk , anyways the thing was if there car didn't make it they had to finish the trip in the vw beetle! With was always near by looming over them
Funny part at the end I believe all the cars broke right at the end together or one barley made it ! And they were getting ready to say the best cheap most reliable car .....
The Beatle comes driving up . They determine it was the best as it did the hole trip without braking

Everybody has a VW story, don't they?
Great car story. I LOVE car stories, especially ones with happy endings.
Thanks for sharing. :)

Yes, everyone has a story, so here's mine. My brother who is 7 years older than me had one. In the winter after it would snow we would go to roads that were not used much and tie a rope to bumper of the VW to the first sled. We would lay on the sleds hooking our feet to one behind the first one and then the next and so on. Five or six sleds going down the street for miles. It was a blast and great times like that are what memory are all about.

cool deal for her

I had a Meyers Max DB w/a 1600cc dp (3rd owner)
& a 68 Bug I messed with (my commuter car) with a Judsen Blown 1600cc dp
later had the same 68 turned into a Baja bug
with a 2100cc dp stroker & Judsen (flapper style) blower

they can be cool cars
as long as they are the newer/better engines
the org. 36 hp 'turds' aren't so good
not for around here anyway

I bought a couple for other people too
79 efi Super Beatles convertibles,
1 for an old Girlfriend (orange & black)
& one for Lisa years later (teal & black)

them things just went on forever

The old saying...Simpler is Better. That's the old air cooled VW. Simple design that holds up, simple to work on. Kind of like a German Model T.

Owned quite a few, worked on many. Tough little car to say the least.

Took my drivers test in a Savanah Beige 67 Beetle. Last was a 78 Dasher. Biggest piece of German **** on planet earth.

One of my uncles in Pennsylvania always had VWs in the '60s and '70s. Beetles, squarebacks, etc... One of my brothers had a squareback. A friend of mine in HS had a beetle all done up like Herbie the Lovebug - with the 53 on it and everything. It was also hot-rodded up, so it was cool.
I had a '66 beetle 35 years ago for just one winter for a beater while my GTX was stored for the winter. I paid $100. for it and we got it running in no time. I cut the outer half of the fenders off (rust) and put big snow tires on all 4 corners. I painted it flat black (to avoid doing body work on it). I painted the rear windows black with clear mixed in to black them out but still be able to see out of them. It had kind of a Baja Bug look to it for almost zero dollars. That thing had a manual transmission with an electric clutch. You pushed down on the shifter to engage the clutch, then shifted. We never could get that thing to work right, though, so to shift on the fly, I resorted to shutting the engine off, shifting, then turning the key back on. LOL - how redneck! I sold it after that one winter.

When I was 16, this guy I knew stops and says take a ride in a VW he got. The guy was driving like a idiot makes a turn loses control and the thing flips on to the roof. Neighbor's come out screaming at us. Couple of people and us flip the thing back over and it starts. Guy says come on get in lets go. I tell him F you, im walking.
