Here is the kind of stuff that my body and paint friend, Ken, prefers to do. It is not all lipstick and mascara, either, as he rebuilds engines, transmissions, magnetos and carbs as needed. He specializes on Case and John Deere tractors, as well as antique gas pumps. As well as doing my '64 Polara he has done a '60's Isetta, '70 GTO convertible, and currently a '69 RoadRunner. He is also helping with his 12 year old daughter's restoration of a small 1930's Case tractor. He says he prefers tractors because they don't have maddening hood, trunk and door gaps to deal with. I think tractor is 1938 Unstyled JD.
I have a 38 model A also. It was originally sold in New York and somehow ended up in Cambridge Md where I found it as junk and restored it. I concur with your buddy about working on these. They were designed with farmer in mind so he could repair them.
I have 49 A also with a vacuum attachment on the manifold to operate the milking machine if necessary.
