One step closer

Thanks guys I appreciate it, Haven't been around turned 21 last week... I'm sure you know how that goes haha. I'll have to sit down and decide on gears.. 3.91 may be the way I go.
I have a couple questions seeing as this engine should put my car into the 10's what kind of requirements am I going to need to do to be nhra legal?
Off the top of my head I know I'm going to need a 6 point cage, harness, drive shaft safety loop, aftermarket axles, clothing, anything else?

I remember it, Wouldn't mind going thru it again! Hope this all works out ok for you, i would be afraid myself if im just starting out to use a 69 RR, No way trying to talk you out of it, just wondering if i would do it or not there not that easy to come by is all.

Thanks Ron, I understand your concern and is exactly why mine is a clone. Plus I couldn't afford the real thing and if I did I would probably leave it. But being this is a Satellite I just see whatever I do to it as being an improvement and increasing the value and cool factor.

Thanks, so it seems to only be about a 250-300 rpm increase between the gears... hmm.. lol

I got a couple quick questions for you guys,
1. What is the stock offset of the engine placement? I know it sits an inch or so closer to the passenger side? (Ordering a motor plate)
2. What kind of advantage/disadvantage will I have running 1 3/4", 1 7/8" or 2" primary headers? I have 1 3/4" but I figured those are really going to hold the engine back but how about 1 7/8" Or do I really need 2"?

Hey 69, couldn't help but notice the fram oil filter. Just wonderin do you plan on leaving that on there. IMHO I'd never run a fram, but to each his own. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything so please don't take it wrong. I just hate to see one of those "orange can of doom" on a new motor.

Sublimegtx, No your not being a dick I'm glad you mentioned something, Whats wrong with them? Just wondering. I was probably going to change it anyways since thats been sitting on it for a few years.

for street application, i would you a 10" turbo action converter. but if your going to go to the track have paul at turbo action spec you out a nice 9"

go at least 1 7/8" headers 2" be better for your stroker motor let the beast breathe

Thanks SSR. The trans was built by Dynamic converters so I figured I'd have them build the converter as well but haven't been able to get a hold of them to talk about a converter... So I'll have to check with turbo action. It is a street car with some strip time. Just wondering how much does a custom converter usually run? much more than off the shelf?

Thats what I was thinking, but only reason I was thinking about 1 7/8 is because I measured the exhaust on the heads are 1.82" If my memory is correct then the 1 7/8 are .05" bigger? In theory wouldn't they both flow the same (1 7/8" and 2") since the heads would be the restricting factor?

Here's a few links.. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/opinions.html http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/mopar...70-favorite-oil-filters&highlight=oil+filters http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/mopar...Do-You-Use-or-Recommend&highlight=oil+filters I just won't use fram, lots of people do. I see $$$$ sitting in that engine and would use the best I could find.

Thanks for the read. I didn't know that, I'll be sure to try one of those recommend on the list. Rather spend an extra what 10 bucks every year or two for something of quality.

Picked up my new engine and trans last night. Just a little street 498 :)

Pipe flow doesnt work like that. You have to look at each section of pipe as a resistor and add up the total resistance to flow. So the larger pipe will definitely flow better.

Thanks, yeah I figured it didn't but it was worth a shot lol.

Well Santa should be bringing me a pair of Doug 2" headers for Christmas. Thats one more thing out of the way.
Now I have been wondering this for a while is it true that the NHRA rules state you do not need a roll bar/cage if the floors and firewall are unaltered for anything slower than 10's?

From 11.49 to 10.0 you need at least a 6 point rollbar if you have stock firewall and floor. Anything faster then 10.0 you need a cage. I have just a 6 point bar and I am legal to 10 flat. Plus if you go in the 9's you need to get an NHRA license and you have to have the roll cage certified. Ron

I would highly suggest Santa send you a NHRA rule book, look it over very well, there are allot of saftey equipment & SFI cerified parts/things that "will be required", especially if you plan on going faster than 11.49 ET {1/4 mile} or even much slower, depending on what modification have been done to the car & drive-train... way too many to list with out knowing all of them.......

Thanks budnick, I agree. I will have to find one. I assume this engine should put my car into the 10's? But the car is basically stock.

Well I got the headers today, only took 2 days pretty happy with that. Jegs even price matched so I got them for 600 bucks shipped. I was able to take a peak before I had to put them away. They are extremely nice! I can't wait to put them on. Now they are 2" into 3.5" collector But I'm thinking 3" out the back should be enough breathing room for the 498?
