Ontario Ministry of the Enviroment roadside checks

so you're in Colorado, California Dave?? :happy7:lol j/k

don't worry, at the rate we're going, all of the US is going to be like Cali. soon; minus the broads and the weather!!!

You would be doing good if that happens. We don't have any smog regs for pre 1976 cars, no inspections for any car.

i don't think we do either Mikey, not too sure on that one. emissions is 15(?) years for us; then i think you get "grandfathered" in.

either way, I was talkin bout other aspects of Cali. {politics}

sheeit, i thought IL was bad...but at least y'all have concealed carry. we're the last ones without!!! :angryfire:

i wonder if Canada has any sort of concealed carry?

any cousins to the North of the olde 49th know??

Not to confuse anyone...we do have strict smog laws/inspections for 1976 and newer cars but I don't care about that as far as my hot rods go.

Calif essentially does not have a concealed carry, you have to have a judge or police chief approve it and it's mostly for ex law enforcement types. The every day citizen can not legally carry, and considering most people around here that's a good thing.

They've been doing this for years. When i lived in Ontario i was pulled over for an inspection, glad i still had the cats on my 5.0 mustang.

Is this a visual-only inspection process or do the inspectors break out the electronic sniffers? If it's visual, there's always that "ram the plumbing pipe through the cats" technique to eliminate backpressure.... :angel11:

Marpar to answer your question about concealed carry in Canada. We have it but it has only been given to a handful of people in the whole country. We can have handguns but can only take them to the range, Total BS mine just collect dust haha.

For emissions up in my neck of the woods, there's no E test, and I have never even heard of these MOE checks. I thought they just bothered truckers lol

Should be called Misery of the Environment!

Most here in CA say a car is exempt and think that gives them the right to disable or remove all the emissions equipment, add big cams, carbs, etc.. Not the case. It's only exempt from inspection! And at any time a peace officer can write an emissions violation ticket but luckily we don't have too much of that - at least that I have seen.

Hmmm. I live in CA, I drive a '74, and I don't have to get it smog checked or anything. But hey, Mar- keep bashing my state, we have 35M people and counting (more than all of Canada!) and we certainly don't need any more.

So for all you who don't live in California, it's a horrible place. The durn liberals sneak around and try to put this stuff that makes you gay in the water! Don't move here, it's the worst!

dont worry, Pabster i have NO intention of moving to Cali. I'd rather move to Canada than California!!

I was born in Chicago, and will die in Chicago. best people and best food in the world here!!!

They tried this stuff in Florida about a dozens years or so ago, but the state has a great mechanism for voters to kill bad laws and it went away. We don't even have basic safety inspections.

Maryland was really weird because they had emissions inspections by county, so you could live in Charles County and have to get an emissions inspection every two years, but live a mile away in St. Marys County and you didn't.

Bruzilla .We dont take the time here to kill it and most people dont stick together ,and the politicians dont listen or care anyways, but we are trying. It is the tree huggers pushing this bill.i put 500 miles a year on my Plymouth and im the problem.???

That's the way the folks in MD felt. A guy living one county over could live within a mile of me, commute over the same roads I did, go to work at the same base as I did, go to the same mall and stores as I did, yet he had to go through all that inspection nonsense and i didn't, solely based on what county we lived in. It was stupid, knee-jerk, feel-good, envirocrap at its finest.

Perspective here. Container ships! the MOE or EPA is going after mice with a sledgehammer! Read this! http://www.gizmag.com/shipping-pollution/11526/ Our cars are fart in a hurricane compared to these ships! They run a thing called bunker oil. This is the left-overs of the refining process, only on step above asphalt! And I don't see catalytic converters sticking out of those ships!

Hey scotts74birds leave those container ships alone. Without them how would we get our daily supply of cheap plastic Chinese crap to the local dollar stores. Or Dollar General as you call yours. But seriously, that is an amazing article. Thanks

Like I said, I just heard about this the other day. We need to start scoping this out. All you Ontario guys, we need to do some research. What are they targeting? I need to find out what smog equipment was even on my car when new. Like 71dodgechargerrt said, what pollution control was on his '71? I don't know myself. Mine is a '69.

My Mechanic (does solely hot rods and plugged into the cruise scene) warned me about this as well as MOE pulling people over leaving shows. Apparently what they are looking for is the not-dated coded engines (i.e. crate motors or later dated blocks) that "in their eyes" require more recent pollution control because they want to argue the pollution requirement should based on the date of the engine. Further to this I understand it's being defeated in court because the ownership is what specifies the date of the car which should give you the exemption.

I had a long convo about this with a guy with a 383 Polara after Moparfest this year and he is running high flow catalytics and an AEM O2 sensor for 1 because he hates the raw fuel smell and secondly because the MOE has been a bit of a concern... I haven't been stopped yet but I did just order a Crate Motor so I have been advised once that motor is in my car not to leave my hood open at car shows.

Hope this helps a bit,

Mike

X2 on cracking down on container ships.

X3 on the container ships. It's starting to dawn on the local clean air agency up here in Seattle that those smog belching ships are a big part of why the air quality is out of compliance on hot summer days. Every pre 75 car in the state couldn't put out the emissions in a year that one of those scows put out in a day. That bunker fuel is some bad stuff.
