Opinions on the subject of " Stolen Valor"

I've read enough about Kerry's military service record over the years now to understand how some will stop at nothing to discredit someone whose political views differ. As far as me being accused of being naive,i just consider the source(s)

These thoughts about what our generation (baby boomers) has done to the detriment of this country as you've described sounds to me like borderline fanatical ranting.I just don't see what you describe. Every generation has been critical of the next to a degree but what your implying about schools for example and what is taught leaves me scratching my head. Having raised three adult children now all in there thirties and having been involved in there schooling, what do you think they were taught in school that causes such a concern? Now there children are in grade school and i still don't see what there being taught that is such a concern.

BTW what about "no child left behind" you failed to mention that.

It's really quite simple Steve to understand. Currently the Politicians in power have come from the Baby Boomer era. They were the Hippies, ant-War/anti Government protesters and trouble makers back then. People like our faux Governor of CA Gov. Moonbeam along with the Senators and Congress members that evolved from that same era. Hell even Bernie the Commie Sanders was of that time period and now is in a position within the Government. Hillery and Bill to name a few more. You have Abby Hoffman, Tom Hayden..by the way he was married to that Traitor Hanoi Jane Gal himself...and countless others. Now that they have gleamed themselves into a power position within the Government and the Education system, we are seeing the end results of those individuals that are entrusted with said power. And they have failed miserably. As for the "No Child Left Behind question. It shouldn't even be a point of debate as it ultimately falls on the parenting of those children to go out and get the most out of the education being offered. That so call initiative has been a failure from the very beginning. I applaud that you took the time and an active part in your children's education. Seems that most parents have no desire to do that now-a-days. And as for their...not "there" Steve but correctly "their"...children and the current education being utilized in today's school systems, it is sorely lacking in the basic fundamentals of reading, writing and ciphering/arithmetic to where the newer generations cannot even perform the basic functions of counting out change or looking something up on their own instead of "google." Hell they cannot even write a legible concrete sentence any more. High School Grads cannot even perform basic skill sets in order to get a job or an apprenticeship that could lead to a nice secure working future. Hell they cannot even pass the basic entrance and physical exams for entry into the Military let alone change a flat tire, an oil change, or a basic tune up. If they cannot have a computer or gaming console then they are completely and totally clueless. God help us if the SHTF and we have to mobilize the Country and rely on the draft, we are screwed. They will be nothing but cannon fodder and whinny little "*******."

And as to the original purpose of this topic about "Stolen Valor?" I hate the fact that anyone can become a poser and wann-be just by purchasing the necessary uniforms and items to portray someone they are not. And it even holds true for the real Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coasties and Airman that fail to uphold the integrity of their service and choose to over state their service and embellish their accomplishments because they lack any self esteem or scruples. Just remember this...You can never BS a BS'er....cr8crshr/Tuck

Like John Kerry
A perfect example in support of cr8crshr's Post.
"Lest we not forget", John Kerry was in Viet Nam for a total time of 3 months...3 Purple Hearts and he missed no "Duty Time" at all getting med support.

Steve, "Every Child Left Behind" was legislation written IN FULL by the dishonorable Senator Ted Kennedy (PoJ-MA), and sold to George W. Bush as a fix to all of our nations' educational woes. Of course, it was a complete POS, but the POTUS, in an effort to "go along to get along", bought off on NCLB. The media attached the President's name to it, and intentionally leaving Chappaquiddick Ted's name out of things; knowing the POTUS was being set up for failure in this legislation. Fact, not opinion.

'Stolen Valor' conviction overturned by federal appeals court:

A federal appeals court on Monday tossed out a veteran's conviction for wearing military medals he didn't earn, saying it was a form of free speech protected by the Constitution.

A specially convened 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the First Amendment allows people to wear unearned military honors.

Elven Joe Swisher of Idaho was convicted in 2007 of violating the Stolen Valor Act, which made it a misdemeanor to falsely claim military accomplishments. President George W. Bush signed it into law in 2006, but the U.S. Supreme Court struck it down in 2012 as a violation of free speech protections.

Investigators looked into Swisher's military claims after he testified at the 2005 trial of a man charged with soliciting the murder of a federal judge. Swisher wore a Purple Heart on the witness stand.
