In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
...And sadly,right back in...

Still f@#$%&*@ with the brakes and the trans leaks like a baby, but I pulled the Sport Fury out of the garage for the first time in quite a while. Had to see how the stance looked(I like it!),and those way-cool wheels(good choice) and wanted to wash all the crap off her. It effin' sucks that I won't make Back To The Bricks or Woodward D.C.;but if I can swing a new trans or a timely rebuild of this one,I may be able to drive it. The saga of this car and me could fill a small book. Suffice to say that there's a "collector" in the Toledo,Ohio area that is far less than honest when it comes to cars he sells...I got burned bad,driveline-wise, with this one.

She's still gorgeous,IMO. I think owners of any '64 Plymouth hardtop, whether Belvedere,Fury or Sport Fury would agree that there's not a bad angle to the car. The boys in Highland Park hit it out of the stadium on this design.

The stance is just right;I might raise the front a wee bit-like 1 inch;no more-and the tires were the right choice. Now,as you can see,it's a little tight in back. Until I drive it,I won't know if they'll rub. If so,I'll have to get another $et of rear wheel$-OUCH! Those are 15X8,with a 4-1/4" b.s.;I've got plenty of clearance to the springs,so it's looking like 5" b.s. on the next set. Maybe they won't rub...

But...no driving her yet. The gf came out to water her plants, saw the puddle of ATF and said "Oh,that time of the month,eh?" :rolling:

She's been very supportive of my time working on the car,so I didn't give her any flack about it. She was smiling when she said it;she knows how I've fought the brakes and the trans and how bummed I am to not drive it yet. Soon,I hope...:steering:

I may just rebuild this trans, and put off the other engine and trans aspect until next year. I just want to EFFIN' DRIVE MY CAR!!!!!:cry::cry:

OK,rant over.

Hell,I almost forgot this:

The original seats were cracking and splitting and the foam turning to powder,$oo-o-o-o...a call to Legendary Interiors(Just go there. Nowhere else. You get what you pay for,and I am more than pleased with L.I.'s products.) and we got these here purdy new buckets. Suh-weet! Comfy, too. You can see where the interior darkened to a crimson color over the years, The new seats look a bit out of place amidst the darker interior(they-the new seats-are the correct original color),but I'll replace that stuff later. Right now I just want to drive my EFFIN' CAR!!!!!! Oh,sorry;that was a rant.

Holy crap, that tiny bit of trans fluid looks like BP was trying to drill there in your drivewat,Ha! Car is looking "EFFIN' GOOD"!!!

The car looks good Al, although it might be time to consider an exorcisim on the poor thing, don't use too much holy water though.....it might burst into flames.

nice car!
is the the cooler line leaking or did the front seal blow?

Very nice Al, sorry about the troubles you are having with it though. You should come down for th Woodward Cruise anyway, you can hang with me and the guys from North Oakland Mopar Muscle.

Matt;I appreciate the offer. I'm numero uno on the overtime list at work, which means I'll be asked to work Saturday and possibly Sunday. Got to pay for this madness somehow.

PDFrogman;it's the main(pump?) seal that's leaking. I tried sealers;with the car idling in the garage,I minimized the leak. When I pulled her out of the garage to wash it,for whatever reason, the leak increased. I ain't going the "Oops;how did this brake fluid get into the trans..." bit-it's tempting,as the trans is in need of a rebuild anyway, but it would be a very temporary fix. Looks like a rebuild or replacement;I may just rebuild this one just to DRIVE MY FREAKIN' CAR! Sorry,I'm ranting again...

Hey,I've fixed virtually all the electrical issues, replaced the ignition components, replaced the rear axle, the brakes, the steering/suspension and the front seats-maybe an exorcism is called for. It would be just to rid the car of the residual evil from the last owner.

shame you werent closer I would rebuild it for you
when u do pull it out who ever rebuilds it make sure the hub on converter is Ok
change pump bushing too

Nice car. I bet the PO said it runs fine you can drive it anywhere. If you need the trans gone over let me know I have a friend who does it and he is reasonable. He lives in Livonia.

Where did you get those wheels!? They are bad ***. Looks like it time warped out of '64. I have a 65 Satty. Same color combo. After looking at your car I am inspired to get back to work on mine. I was thinking the exact same hing on the stance. One onch higher on the front and you nailed it. Great looking car and yes not a bad line ant where.

The words I kept hearing were "You won't be disappointed...". I'd pay him a visit and express my disappointment, but that would lead to bad things:black_eye::black_eye::black_eye:. Can't drive a car from a jail cell,ya know:no:. I've got a good guy up here that rebuilt the T7004R in my beater truck and did a hell of a job. I don't know what his TF experience is,though. I'm planning on a trans/driveshaft upgrade anyway, and have a "standard" 727 unit that would be a good case for a complete rebuild with good parts. Since I'm going that route, and have a tranny...might as well upgrade now. I'll be in touch...like I've stated,I just wanna drive!!!!

Damn,that sounded like whining. Sorry.

Wheels are from Rally America;15X5 front,15X8 rear. That company came HIGHLY recommended by a lot of folks for good units that run true. Might still have to go to a 15X8 with 5" back-spacing(these are 4-1/4") to clear the inner top of the rear quarter. Tires are 205/75-15 front and 255/70-15 rear.

Lookin' great Al!!! those rims are killer!! I don't blame you one bit for ranting!!! i'd want to drive it too!!! :black_eye:

Al K,
Did you/ARE you going to make it to Back to the Bricks? We went from Grand Blanc to Downtown last night and took 1.5+ hours. Of course we were in the only 65 Barracuda that I saw but hey, I only saw south bound traffic (5 mph). I heard many shouts of "Hemi Under Glass" (this is a slant 6 car) and "Wow, a Baccaruda!". Just wondering what comments your ride was drawing?

At least you have a great car to begin with. If you covert over to post 65 trans you lose the cable shifting but yours is a consol car anyway so it is a matter of a newer shifter. Are you changing the rear axle as well? 65-67 rear axle will be narrower by about 1 3/8 inches than the 64 so it should help in tire clearence.

Nah;I'm working tomorrow, and the trans is leaking WAY too much to chance a complete blowout of the seals. I'm working on something(an engine/trans combo) that might get me on the road this year. Hey,the Frankenmuth show isn't far away...

Black64;I had to pull the original rear axle out cuz it was trashed(like, turn the yoke and no axle rotation-yeah...) and replaced it with a '65 up style. This one is the same length,but... there's a whole 'nother 8-3/4" housing,c.s.,axles and 11 inch brakes that I found at the Armada swap a couple of weeks ago. It has had the spring perches removed and brackets mounted for a four-link rear suspension-it was in a T-bucket-but I'm thinking that narrowing it a couple of inches(which means cu$tom axle$) would provide the clearance. A project for next year... Now,as far as the shifter issue, thanks for the tip. WTF do I do if I go to a later(and I planned to) style trans? I won't hack up that console in any way,so what would work, from an aftermarket standpoint? I'm talking bolt-in,NO cutting, etc. HELP!!! PLEASE!

Have I mentioned that I really want to drive this car? In my freakin' lifetime?:yes::yes: I might have,a time or two...

You know;I forgot to mention the place that did the seats for me. I'm a maroon for this omission...

A-1 Upholstery,in New Lothrop,Michigan did the work, and they've done snowmobile seats and bike seats for me and a bazillion others over the years. They handle just about any upholstery job. They (Dianne and Bill Miller) also put on one of the largest vintage snowmobile shows and swap meets in the nation on their property. Top shelf, first class folks, and Dianne was recently inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall Of Fame for her achievements racing sleds many years ago.

The shifter deal is no proble, as I am doing it for my det up. Get a B&M or similar style cable, make a bracet that bolts to the shifter and holds the cable, feed it thru the grommet and down to the trans and bolt it on the shifter arm. Done and best of all it costs about 60 bucks for the cable and aluminum flat bar to make the bracket. Pretty damn simple.

That is one BEAUTIFUL Fury. Love that interior. Hope everything works out for you. I can't stop looking at the pics. Very sweet ride!
