The first Mopar you ever drove!

61 Dodge pioneer more door with the slant 6 , 3 on the tree.
Grandpa's car.
The dash wash cool, speedo was in a wide pod.
I remember the hood had these big stamped louvers on each side.
No pics , but I can still see it.

My father had a '70 something Plymouth Valiant around the time when I was a teen and learning to drive in the late '80's. It was gold, 4 door with a slant 6. I was completely embarrassed being seen in it as a kid.

My parents 1964 Dodge , 330 wagon. Factory 383 4-speed. This car caught hell for years...and we finally scrapped it in the early-mid 70's.
Man, if that car could tell stories...

1st Mopar I drove was an ex state police car my dad bought at a Trooper auction. Unmarked ‘67 Fury I, 440. Not great out of the hole but you couldn’t run it out of top end.
What's my top end on this? Unlimited!

My wife and her siblings catching a ride in the Chrysler Turbine car at the Chrysler Pavilion during the 1965 Worlds Fair in New York! Jay Leno has nothing on her!

70 charger 500. Original plum crazy car but was painted blue. Black interior and top. A/C 318 console shift auto. Power drum brakes.
The paint peeled off plum crazy cars by the time they were a year or two old. It's not unusual to see the resprayed other colors.

The first Mopar I drove was also the first one I bought, 1971 Barracuda. Slant 6, 3 speed manual, floor shift, black buckets seats non console interior, manual steering and brakes. It was white when I bought it, was originally FC7. Cool car, I think it was a pretty rare. I was 16 years old when I bought it, drove it home on my learner’s permit. It was the 2nd car I ever bought.
I had a 71 slant 6 Barracuda convertible with an automatic transmission. It was one of 163 built. It was a slug, but it looked great. I bought a very rusty 71 Challenger R/T that had a freshly rebuilt 383 Magnum in it. I swapped the whole driveline,k frame and disc brakes into the Barracuda convertible. I wish I still had it.

My folks 66 Imperial, in 1971, I was 11. Got my license in a 73 New Yorker. Drove my sisters 73 Gold Duster, my dad’s 76 Club Cab, (drove the 2 prior International Travelletes also). Had a 74 GMC I bought, beginning of junior year in 76. My first Dodge, was a new 78 D150, I bought right after graduation.
I got a 78 Dodge truck myself, mine is red.

I had been driving quite a bit by the time the first mopar came in 1980 growing up on a farm. First mopar was my grandpa's blue/blue 72 Fury II 4 door. I don't think I drove it till 81 or 82. The 400 out of it went in our 69 charger for a summer, then stuck in a large bulldozer as a toy...then a '80 volare. The 400 now lives on stroked to a 542 in our 72 satellite.
So here is a picture of the first mopar engine I ever operated..the car was recycled 30 years ago. The satellite we bought in 1989, think it was the 4th mopar I had drove by then.

1st was my folks ‘63 Fury 4-Dr push button with 318(great engine). Next I remember was a test drive in a ‘65 Coronet 4-spd 426 wedge.(didn’t buy it). Then my current, the BEE when they first came out. Probably others, but those 3 stick in my head.

67 Fury 1, 318. Mom & dad had Furys as cabs for their business back late 60s to mid-70s. just moved it total of 300', turned around & drove it back, lined it up with sidewalk so dad could jack it up & do the back brakes.
Road drive, 1971 Charger, 318 with "HUBCAPS".

My first Mopar (from and all Ford and GM Family) was my black 70 Charger R/T back in 1985. I had 4 Chargers while still in high school. Never been without one 68-70 Charger in my life since and still have my 4th (red) Charger today.

My Grandpa taught me to drive in his 62 Dodge pickup when I was 14. After dinner he would wink at me and walk out to the truck. we would drive a little ways till out of Grandmas sight, then we would switch places. He would sit back and smoke a cigar with a grin while I practically ground off the gears learning how to shift it. It was our secret, he was not supposed to smoke and I was not supposed to drive. What a great memory.

1966 Chrysler Newport, 383 2-bbl
One of the most reliable vehicles my folks ever owned.
I think my Dad had it for about 15 years.
He used to store it in winter for the first 5 years or so.
Then it became a year round driver.
This color but 14" wheels with full wheel covers.

I don’t have a picture but it was my mom’s (new) 1972 dodge demon. It was gold, had a slant six and was an automatic car. I loved it.

My dad's '48 Dodge B series pickup truck. I was about 10 when I started driving it on the farm, mostly when planting the crops hauling seed and fertilizer around in the fields. 218 cid flat head straight six with a 4 speed transmission with a stump puller 1st gear. I now have a '53 B series that is nearly identical to that '48. I still enjoy driving that old Dodge.
Here's a photo of that old Dodge pickup, its the only photo I have of the truck (other than the ones stuck in my memory).

Pic of my '53 that I own and drive nowadays.

The first Mopar I remember driving was a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook. It had an flat head six and what they called a "hi-drive" transmission. It was a three on the tree with a clutch but you could stop and start without using the clutch. No pictures of it though.
