Canton, OH
I went to order a fiberglass bumper.
Direct shipping from Chicago to Canton Oh would be $500!

To the nearest depot would be $350.

I don’t know if it’s worth it.

Geez that’s way too much. I got a bucket seat from New York to Oregon $100. The seat was taken apart. Ups

Get the weight and dimensions of the package, and see what the quote would be if you personally were to process a shipping label on FedEx, UPS, or your carrier of choice, from the supplier's location to you

It might be possible that you can create and purchase a shipping label, then email the label to the shipper. They would print it out and tape it on the box.....and off it goes!

Almost worth calculating the gas cost to go pick it up.

It’s the time more than gas. Probably 8-9 hours one way.

I would think if they were willing to ship ups they would say so. I was too flabbergasted to ask.

Shipping has gotten outrageously retarded since the "Scam-Demic". If a shipment is over 8' (even 1/4" over) an additional fee is added to the already large shipping fee due to it being "Oversize". I ordered an 8' x 3" pipe and it was about $125ish is shipping. I looked up a 10' or 12' x 2" aluminum tube and shipping + the additional fee came to about $850 to ship. Drop the length to 8', and the shipping goes down to about $150. Extremely retarded Brandonomics...

I guess I won't be ordering one now.

Do you know anyone with commercial shipping account? I recently have shipped a couple items... One was originally quoted at $225, through my buddy it cost me $85...

Another item had to ship LTL, Texas to Ca., 8' long 6' high & 3' deep... 5500 lbs... Original quote $2675... Through a company I do work for it cost me $1450....

How do they do business with shipping rates like that ?!?!?

That’s what I was wondering.

I’ve been rolling around in my head to try to make one from aluminum. I’ll give it more thought now.

Blame fuel costs? Have you seen what UPS drivers are paid these days? Nothings cheap these days & if the customer is willing to pay what they're asking why would they take less??

I can ship a 450 lb rotisserie via LTL from Ontario to either coast on a skid that's 32" x 60" x 18" for around $300.. Someone in Chicago has their head up their a$$. Or they've quoted you "next day air" !!!

A shipping Agent/Service will get a lower quote that you can as a "One time Shipper". The companys that do it all the time get great discounts that are usually passed down to you. A company I have used in the past for machinery is "Crater & Freighters".

I agree...how do they expect to sell any, at that ludicrous shipping price? Two years ago this month, I had a 29' boat delivered from Pittsburgh area to northeast of Detroit. I was quoted $400 by the driver, but in the month before picking up the boat, gas shot up considerably. I didn't want him to cancel, so I gave him an extra $100. So, for 500 bucks, I got an entire boat delivered! These businesses must be nuts. I used uShip.com

Considering "most" 'glass bumpers cost a good bit under $500, that's crookery IMO...I paid $300 shipping for a new fiberglass hood last year. LTL freight, fully crated.
Who did you buy it from?

What supplier/Fiberglass shop is it ?

inquiring minds all need to know

VFN fiberglass in Addison IL

I didn’t buy it, though I was going to until I heard the shipping cost.
$350 for the bumper, not bad.
$30 to crate it, not bad.

I’m a budget racer, and will spend money when I need to. But that just seems like pissing it away.

I didn't pay anywhere near that money to ship a steel bumper from California to me in Ontario Canada last year for the '64 Dodge. And that was on UPS, the criminals of the shipping industry...
