Outrageous Shipping Quote

It would take more money than that for me to go near Chicago.
Canton is enough of a hell hole for me.

I own my own truck. I will never complain about shipping rates. If it is totally unreasonable that's the i don't want to haul it price.
My conversation with my dispatcher, no....but, no....but, ok but I'm going to need xxxx$ ..... They are not going to pay that, then no.

Yeah I almost get the feeling they don’t want to sell it.

Tax for having a foot that's 12" or more long.

That makes the box over 12" on one side which automatically generates an increased cost.

The upside is that you can measure things like a room or foundation with a reasonable degree of accuracy without a tape measure.
I don't ever recall my wife complaining about me having more than a foot-long.

Hopefully you never had to ship it anywhere.
Can it be carry on, or does it have to be checked and placed in cargo?

Sometimes I just don’t give in to these high prices based on principle.
I hate the idea of validating the pricing by paying it. The shipper doesn’t care if you complain, just that you pay.
I’ve spent more to drive and buy in person and not felt bad about it.

It can get lost sometimes…

I actually thought about posting that song but decided against cluttering up the OP's thread any more than I already have.

Nice to see that obscure song I taped off a community radio station many years ago has a as big a following as it does.

I have never been with UPS, had a friend that was, never made it to that nice teamsters pension, so I have a little insight. I have never been in the LTL other than some fuel money single pieces.
It's been a lifetime ago since I pulled a dummy box, but right now is a busy time of season, leading up to Christmas. So a bulky crate with a probably easy damaged fiberglass bumper is not bread and butter freight. Maybe late January you would see more reasonable rate. Just my thoughts.

Early Sam.

Buying parts for American cars for those outside the US costs a fortune in shipping. It is part of the cost of the hobby. When people complain to me about the cost, I suggest they find a cheaper hobby, like bird watching.....

Traveling is such a chore that I really don’t enjoy it anymore.

Around here a 20 mile trip can take you anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour from one day to the next.

Road construction is constant. Accidents are normal, and even if they don’t cause an accident the bad drivers cause traffic jams.

Wife and I drove to Florida for vacation in 2021. Every small or medium size city would have traffic back ups.

I’m the kind of knucklehead that tries to get off and travel on secondary highways, and although it’s less frustrating it normally takes longer.
