Outrageous Shipping Quote

Know anyone from your area traveling here in a few weeks to attend MCACN?
If so, see if you can talk them into picking it up for you while here. Addison is about 30 minutes from Rosemont.
I drive through Addison about 3X a week.

There is this guy, but the logistics would be improbable:

Thread 'PA to MT'

This is the mopar tax.

Countless companies use unreasonable shipping and handling fees as a means of increasing their profit. Classic Industries wanted $24 for shipping and another $13 for insurance, for a dash light dimmer switch. I found the exact same new part (OER) on EBay for $40 less plus free shipping. It earned them a permanent spot on my bad vendor list, right next to Year One and Jim’s Auto Parts.

VFN fiberglass in Addison IL

I didn’t buy it, though I was going to until I heard the shipping cost.
$350 for the bumper, not bad.
$30 to crate it, not bad.

I’m a budget racer, and will spend money when I need to. But that just seems like pissing it away.
I thought it was them, only one I saw in the Chicago area...

They used to be great company to deal with...
Quality stuff

But;
that crazy money for shipping fiberglass bumper/s

I didn't pay anywhere near that money to ship a steel bumper from California to me in Ontario Canada last year for the '64 Dodge. And that was on UPS, the criminals of the shipping industry...
FEDEX are even worse here...

Summit Racing raised their min. amount of purchase
to ship free to $110
it used to be $99
it's still a freaken' bargain 99% of the time "usually"

That’s the bitch of it.
Summit offers free shipping on the Harwood fiberglass it sells, but it doesn’t look like they make them for Mopars.

Even at that I normally pick my stuff up at summit.

Fun fact: Shipping Headers to New Zealand is expensive.
so are size 13 US golf shoes :poke: some of them "have big feet too"
when they, Pack & Ship, company here local company that ships with all the carriers

I feel sorry for them having to deal with all this stuff

Pray tell...how do we know that?? However, at least there are kind people out there willing to undertake the task.:lowdown::lowdown::lowdown::lowdown:

And I have not forgotten that.:lowdown::lowdown::lowdown::lowdown:

Gosh...it makes me feel like we are refugees out here isolated in the South Pacific. :D

I have a fiberglass place that I pass frequently here in southern california. I could get hood or bumpers and throw em in the back of my truck, after inspecting em. Ideal situation.... except they don't make anything for any of the three cars I would buy glass for!

Only $500? Lucky fella! I am waiting on a rotating assy, shipping $US986 & will be $1640 because of the lousy Aussie dollar.

I went to order a fiberglass bumper.
Direct shipping from Chicago to Canton Oh would be $500!

To the nearest depot would be $350.

I don’t know if it’s worth it.
Try blue lane freight from Fastenal. Drop off has to be at a Fastenal location then pick up is at one too.

I used it a few times and it was extremely cheaper and easier. However the shipper has to be ok with dropping it off.

https://www.fastenal.com/fast/blue-lane-freight

that might be where you get stuck if they don't want to drop off.

It’s the time more than gas. Probably 8-9 hours one way.

I would think if they were willing to ship ups they would say so. I was too flabbergasted to ask.

How slow do you drive? I just looked it up and it’s only a six hour drive.

Two things;
1. Road construction and Chicago traffic make six hours optimistic.
2. Wife would probably ride along.

Even 6 hours would mean a 12 hour trip. At my age (60) and I’m not retired, my time is valuable to me.

Tax for having a foot that's 12" or more long.

That makes the box over 12" on one side which automatically generates an increased cost.

The upside is that you can measure things like a room or foundation with a reasonable degree of accuracy without a tape measure.

I actually bought a few more parts the other day to get over the free shipping hump. It’s a good deal in today’s environment.

Chicago to Canton. 12 hour round trip.
