"Please S T O P saying this" thread.

I actually do about an even split between being annoying intentionally and on accident.

"What Ever?" We can definitely lose that rebuttal? You say that? You lost any credibility to your point of view.

Our family has a small assortment of Joke gifts that get passed around at Christmas....including that bear head.

Set and sit, then and than....invariably used incorrectly.

The old car sits in the garage. (as in not moving, stationary)
The custard sets in a bowl (as in congeals)

She's a fat ugly cow, rather you than me.
You found her first, then you have the first option to bang her.

But the 'L' isn't silent, 'though I've often heard it spoken both ways. The ancient Latin 'solidare' is the origin, meaning to 'make solid' (as a coupling or joint).

Different.....Solidare has a vowel in between the L and D. You can't omit the L without sounding iggnent....
Solder? I pronounce it "sodder".

The O in Soldier is a hard O.
Own. Toe. Show.
The O in Solder is a soft O.
Soft. On. Top.
That difference somehow matters.
I have not heard anyone pronounce Solder like Sold Err. I have not heard them pronounce it Sahl-Derr.
Someone might somewhere but I have not heard it.

Long or short sounding vowels? I don't want to go to A or E-bodies only? E-bodies is just a parts hunt. And A-bodies is low rent. Umm. Maybe C-bodies? Never owned one. But it's a thought?

Calm and solder......

the "l" is pronounced the same?

I say the l in solder a bit softer than I do in calm....but it's there.

More like "calk".

(...can of worms now open...)

Me- What did you do with that car you bought yesterday?

You- Solder.
