"Please S T O P saying this" thread.

"ya know what I mean" which a buddy of mine says way too often. I used to say 'sorry bout that' but never added the 'chief' to it like from the show Get Smart. My dad let me know one day that he was sick of hearing me say it.
At a job site with over a dozen day laborers that I would never ever see again, I would on occasion not knowing the person's name, get their attention by innocently calling them "Chief".
I did that one day and the person happened, unbeknownst to me, be an American Indian, and became very much offended.
I offered my sincere apology, once.

Being in the military I heard the term 'chief' used quite often.....

Being a WI-nite, I sometimes end a sentence with ‘hey’. Wow hey, what the %$#& hey. Not used much in my part of the state, but more often in the northern parts. And I believe this is more owned in another northern-most state than mine…maybe N. Dakota.
Yeah, the girl in the original movie Fargo had that accent, but like I said; nobody in Canada sounds like that. There are regional differences, though. Southern B.C. sounds different, Alberta, Northern B.C. and most of Saskatchewan all sound similar, Quebec, well don’t get me started on Quebec. And Newfies of course have a unique dialect.

I won’t say too much but why would Abbotsford, Surrey and lower mainland have the same accent as Northern BC, Alta, SK, and parts of MB?

You may occasionally hear the word penultimate used as an intensified version of ultimate, as in "a race they've called 'the penultimate challenge.'" This use isn't typically found in edited prose, however, or in dictionaries.

I've never heard penultimate used this (incorrect) way.
I've only ever known it as the "one before the final".

I won’t say in print. It could be used against me. Plus, there are some cool guys on here from the lower mainland that I don’t want to offend with a broad generalization.

Got a few more:
'Send it!'
'I got a side hustle'.
'I stand up to hate!'

Ok, so send it where?
So you're ripping someone off on the side? Cuz in my neighborhood, hustling someone meant stealing from them by tricking them.
Yeah, they stand up to hate alright, they stand up and then they hate me and everyone else that disagrees with their little unicorn piss drinking, fairy asses! I stand up to those that hate me too!

Didn't know you hung out with 'people'

If I knew more people with similar interests, I'd have more friends.
I wish that the people that I do know were more into the car thing. I have a few car buddies but not many. Even the guys in the local Mopar club rarely ever drive their cars to meetings or have a project car they are working on. It sucks to feel like I'm one of the few that still love this stuff.
Sometimes I feel like the last guy in the band that still loves the music while everyone else has moved on.

I have not heard that one and don't know what to make of it. It isn't clear to me what it is supposed to mean.

ASKING FOR A FRIEND.

STOP this one. It was sort of cute when it was first being said. That was 10 years ago. When you use it now, you're like the uncle that only knows 40 year old jokes that were barely funny when they were new and have not improved with age.

I give them the benefit of doubt, believing they know how passe the term is, and the joke/sarcasm is in its use, or so a friend who stayed at a Holiday Inn told me.

The things people say are as personal as the clothes they wear, the car they choose to drive to work, the color of their house, the woman they picked to marry or the way they pick an old classic car. Timeless and classic is what makes life fun. Just like your opinion is your own and God knows, I'm sure you don't have all the answers and if you think you do, it's just your opinion. It's kind of you guys to give people the benefit of your doubt, which is just another way of saying, it's your opinion. I have to constantly remind myself to consider the source. In other words, do I think you're earned the right to offer us your criticism or should I say, are you someone to be admired or even respected. This is like people who smile to your face and then tear you down behind your back, or those who undermine you directly under the guise of constructive criticism or just trying to help. Playing this game is simply a reflection of your own lack of self compassion or maybe self worth. By putting the focus on someone else, and what they think you did wrong, they can take the focus off of themselves, and their own defects in character. Putting someone down, elevating themselves to a position of power. People who attempt to gain power by diminishing others, do it because they don't feel powerful in their own lives. This unsolicited, negative criticism is only meant to hurt someone's feeling and lend an opportunity to give your opinion. Now we're back to the beginning, smell what I'm saying. As sure as I am, there will always be death and taxes, there will always be people like this in our lives. Trying to please all people all of the time is a surefire setup for disappointment. We're all on our own separate journey, we just need to stay in our own lane. We Trust that we are doing the best we can for ourselves and most importantly, NEVER let another's lack of security steal your own. No matter how justified other people believes it to be, it's just their opinion and thank God I chose the path I'm on, because being you, isn't near as fun as being me. Now, that's not just my opinion, that's a fact, but then again, it's just my opinion. This statement was told to me by a licensed phycologist and I'm sure if you could afford 200 dollars an hour, you wouldn't need us to make yourself feel better.

Before you say something about this licensed phycologist, be careful about lending your opinion on her, my blood is hers. She cringes when I say this, but now, go blow a dead fish...................... She's still working on me, I may be hopeless, but at least I'm kind and giving to others. That last part was just my opinion, you know, the kind and giving part.

^^^^^ This! That has to be the most annoying, overused, unimaginative comment on the internet. It’s time is done, it’s time to put it away. I’ve occasionally replied with “your friend is a moron”.

Thank you sir (Ulli, that’s how I was raised). I was raised to treat with respect and kindness until it wasn’t warranted. I raised my kids that respect is more important than love. Someone can say they love you but, how they respect and treat you, is the true definition of love. Everything you wrote is true and I think if more people believed that, this world would be a better place. No one is above anyone just because they have money or self perceived power. There will always be people who take advantage of others, whether they have money or not. That’s a fact of life, they both feel for whatever reason it is their right. Opinions are just that, look at what the person is, how they treat others and how they live their life. It’s easy to say things to make themselves sound good, look at how they interact in the real world, that’s the real test.
My bet, your daughter is just as proud of you, as you are of her! We all need to be worked on and we all are hopeless in certain ways but, from what I’ve read, you’re a hell of a person and I’m sure there are many people who feel the same. Take care and stay the man you are, we need more of them!
