poison ivy

My entire property is infested with the stuff. You are correct, it takes on all 3 forms, and I have them all, plants, vines and shrubbery.
Roundup does not kill it as the vine/root system is extensive, it just pops up somewhere else. I've used enough roundup the EPA is considering designating my place a Superfund site.
Your best defense is to know when you tangle with it, immediately remove ALL clothing, wash ALL areas thoroughly, and don't touch "sensitive" areas.
If you have neighbors I would probably wait until you get inside, some HOA's can be Dicks!!
Why is it funny when someone else has it?
Sorry:rolleyes:

@eldubb440 Fels naphtha works fairly well if you have nothing else. I found Tecnu years ago and found it to be the best way to itching within hours and it will start to dry it all up at the same time. They also make a pre-exposure product that coats your skin so the urushiol can’t be absorbed by your skin. You use it when you know you will be exposed, like when you go out to remove the vines from your trees intentionally. This is the stuff I use:

Lacquer thinner dries it up good too, just about any thinner that dries out your skin will help. A proactive measure is to wash off with dish soap as soon as you realize you touched it, unfortunately this only works if it's done quickly and your usually out in the brush.

Another month or 2 and I'll have to start worrying about it again:eek:

how's this for an update?

quote from last week........itchy palms lol

you guys are gonna love this......... so I'm in the shop about an hour ago, working on a pos and my palm begins to itch

so I'm thinking; that's weird, is someone bringing me money?
within 10 minutes, my other palm starts itching....... and I'm like WTF?

turns out it was NOT poison ivy.......... it was the CHINA VIRUS!

so check this out..........the rash got real nasty. I have a few pics I'll add later.

I also had a fat/numb lower lip for about 4 hours one day, and a fat/ numb upper lip the next day...... that damn poison ivy! not!

anyway, early on, I put this prescription steroid cream the wife had lying around on the rash, and it was 100% gone the next morning. I'm like, Holy ****! that cream is bad ***! But within a few hours it was back! but worse!.... where is the miracle cream? I put it on, and 6 hours later, it's 100% gone again! Now I'm like, "****, I'm almost out of cream!" .... so we order the only refill, but the tubes are tiny; and by Friday the rash has come and gone like clockwork, and I'm out of cream again!....... and I'm questioning, WTF is wrong with me? I'm thinking this **** ain't no kind of poison ivy.

so, Friday, after battling this all week, and running out of cream..... the wife starts complaining she has a fever and feels like crap. Hmmmm..... and Friday night I head to the drug store in hopes of some over the counter relief. I bought 2 separate things to throw at it, and it worked! six hours and the rash was gone!

now I'm really thinking...... "WTF, the over the counter stuff works as good as the prescription? nothing this entire week is adding up"

then I find this.........

Researchers discovered that 8.8% of people reporting a positive coronavirus swab test had experienced a skin rash as part of their symptoms, compared with 5.4% of people with a negative test result. Similar results were seen in a further 8.2% of users with a rash who did not have a coronavirus test, but still reported classic COVID-19 symptoms, such as cough, fever or anosmia (loss of smell).

The rashes associated with COVID-19 fall into three categories:
  • Hive-type rash (urticaria): Sudden appearance of raised bumps on the skin which come and go quite quickly over hours and are usually very itchy. It can involve any part of the body, and often starts with intense itching of the palms or soles, and can cause swelling of the lips and eyelids. These rashes can present quite early on in the infection, but can also last a long time afterwards.
the other 2 did not apply

Skin rash should be considered as a fourth key sign of COVID-19 (joinzoe.com)

Sunday was my last day with the rash, Friday and Saturday were the worst........ I felt like **** this past Monday and Tuesday, and slept a lot

the wife was actually sick with flu like symptoms, but doing much better today........ she tested positive on Monday morning

I spelled, punctuated, and highlighted lol,.......I knew KD was lurking :poke:

Hope you and your wife feel better... Covid sure does some strange things Itchy palms, blow job lips and sores are a side effect those Chinese sure no how to F-with people...

this **** was all over me for a week......6 hours at a time, itchy as balls.....weird

Soaking in a tub with epsom salts usually helps. Epsom salt bathwater can soften rough, dry skin, and exfoliate dead skin cells. It may also soothe skin affected by skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. It is a good idea to check with a doctor before soaking in Epsom salt if a person has a skin condition, as it may make the symptoms worse.

did you read post 104?

Yes, I read that. But with any ailment, treating the symptoms (like itching) makes you feel comfortable even if it doesn’t cure what caused them.

I’m glad that you and your wife are doing better! We’ve been praying for you.

Try putting any kind of sunburn or anti-itch lotion or gel-like lotion in the refrigerator, so it's cold when applied.
*ALWAYS check the product's temperature range requirements so as to not exceed them, in this case, the minimum temperature.

Tequila made from the agave cactus.

Drink it, don't apply it topically.

Scrub with a wire brush and gasoline. Note: When you get down to the bone, stop. It will be gone by then.

100% puro de agave (azul)
For 20 years, say 1985 to 2005 vodka was my favorite, Absolut as a rule, with many fine others as a worthy substitute (Grey Goose, Belvedere, Ketel One). Never Stoli, I tried, more than once, and never liked it. For most of that time, it was Absolut an cranberry w/a twist of lime. Then a splash of cranberry, then straight on the rocks. Occasionally a dirty, dry martini made with Absolut.
Then...
I never liked "Tequila" and compared it to what I imagined the toxic runoff from a film processing plant must taste like.
My wife and I went to Mexico, and toured Jalisco one day, the birthplace of Tequila. I learned 2 things that day that put Tequila at the top of my favorite alcohol list:
1-ONLY drink Tequila that is "100% puro de agave" or made strictly from the agave plant. Any Tequila that is not labeled in that manner can have up to 40% grain alcohol in it, and THAT was why I had never liked the Tequila I had tried, it was crap! Also blue (azul) agave is preferred, by far.
2-When you shoot Tequila, (my preferred way of drinking it) no salt, lime, nothing but the Tequila, and breathing technique is critical. Breathe IN, shoot it, and breathe out through the nose as it goes down. BLISS!
The distillery we were at was small, the people friendly, and the Tequila outstanding. Unless I'm drinking Margaritas, which blanco (white, unaged) is fine for, I drink Reposado (aged, brown color) or Anejo (most aged, darker brown color) and that aging process and the flavors and smoothness along with gorgeous caramel brown color, all from resting in wooden barrels, is such a fine liquor to shoot, sip, or a little of both.
Rudo is one of my favorite brands, Hornitos, and others, but not Patron so much. There's so many wonderful distilleries available, but those are a couple of my favorites. I can't say the last time I drank, it's been that long. No special reason, just how it is.
But since that trip to Jalisco, I Iove real Tequila!
