poison ivy

you guys are gonna love this......... so I'm in the shop about an hour ago, working on a pos and my palm begins to itch

so I'm thinking; that's weird, is someone bringing me money?
within 10 minutes, my other palm starts itching....... and I'm like WTF?

then it occurs to me........earlier today, Rebel got hold of a vine that was tangled into a tree behind the shop and was pulling it out of the tree. He gave up after a few minutes and I grabbed it and finished the job. .....Now it all makes sense....... JFC, I'm a ******* dumb ***

the good news is it was cold today, so exposure was minimal.
the bad news is I must have adjusted my junk at some point

you can't make this **** up

About 5 years ago, I got Poison Oak on my crotch. I had it bad enough to go to the Dr about it. Nice guy, Asian about 35 years old.
I pulled down my pants to show all of the affected areas. Due to the puffy nature of the irritation, my sausage had swelled to at least twice, maybe 2 1/2 times the usual thickness.
Ohhh....you big like monstah! It like Godzirra !
(He didn't actually say that)

Most of the time, I get it once a year. I've tried many products including Zanfel, Domboro, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. The drier the sores are, the less it itches. A few years back I started using cheap booze that has been left here after parties. Vodka and tequila work well.

No argument here:rolleyes:

You're lucky it's still winter enough that the sap isn't running. The vine with the heavy bark is known as poison oak. Probably what you had a hold of today. It's just as bad as ivy. Animals can have reactions with oak or ivy too.

Look at it as an oil and contact with it gets in your skin. Carry it on your clothes then touch your clothes you get it. The dog gets it on his fur and you pet him, you get it. It evaporates and can be transmitted through the air and if you're real sensitive you get it. Burn it and the oil vapour gets on you and you get it. Cutting wood with a chain saw, ivy/oak on the log, dust gets on you and you get it!

You can have contact with some poisons and insect venom throughout your whole life and it doesn't seem to bother you. Then all of a sudden you start having reactions to certain things. It's mainly because your body has neutralized it all these years. The thing is it's still in your system. Once you have too much in your system, your ability to neutralize it becomes more difficult and you start having the reactions. This happened to me with bee stings. I'll take Benadryl when I get stung and that's been working so far. There's a difference between being born with allergies and becoming allergic as you get older.

And Stop Scratching! It just spreads the oil!

upon further inspection, it's on both my inner thighs, but doesn't seem to have gotten to my actual junk.....guess I'll know soon enough

I have a spot here and there on other areas, but not too bad

I changed out of my pants earlier and into a pair of sweats....... that's when it must have gotten on my thighs........never a dull moment

so this thread is dated nov 2017....... I know the following year I killed all that ****, it was growing like mad behind the shop, like ground cover.....and I haven't seen any since

I didn't realize the wooden vines on the trees were also it.......and from what I read the oil stays on them for years

F me....... had no idea, I killed all the "plants"

Poison ivy can take three possible growth forms:

  • Sometimes it looks like a thick vine, and you’ll see it winding around a tree and climbing high into the air.
  • Sometimes it looks a like a bush or a shrub.
  • Other times it will carpet the ground.
As a result, you may see poison ivy at almost any height, from your toes to above your head.

My mother swore by Fels-Naptha soap, especially if you washed soon after contact.

The reason I asked, some dogs can get poison ivy. Although rare my hunting buddies dog got it on its belly and around the eyes.

An article that I read stated that aggressive washing is far more effective than the soap or astringent that you use.
