poison ivy

I think if I just look at it I get it. I agree with Fran, fels-naptha laundry soap is the only thing that works for me. I shower with it, and then rub the lather on and let it dry. Relieves itching and dries the poison out.

This begs the question. Hang on, no it's OK....best we don't know how come.
How did I know it was double the thickness?
I did not measure it. I am guessing, using my years in construction and car hobby as a basis for estimating size and distance.

I was thinking lacquer thinner might kick it's ***, but I'm too much of a puss
Whenever I cut myself, I pour lacquer thinner, acetone or MEK on immediately. One time I had a foot swell & infect badly, next three days I kept pouring acetone on it. All dried up & healed in four days.
Any time I start to get a skin rash, I bathe it with bleach a few times & heal within a couple days. No liver troubles.

But did you colour sand and buff your foot afterwards? :poke::p:D

how long does all that take? aint nobody got time fo dat!

I used to get it BAD! I have had Prednesone prescribed for it because I was so swollen I could not bend my arms at the elbow and my face was completely round like a basketball! When we were kids we always had it on our dicks, we did not realize how it spread, we just scratched the hell out of it! One time we discovered that if you scratched it until it bled then poured Clorox on it that the itching would go away and it would dry up ( not you dick, the poison oak, jeesh). My Mom caught us and had a COW! Another time, my buddy had broken his leg and was in a cast. Naturally he got some under the cast and decided to drill a hole in the cast so he could scratch it.....well, all the cotton balled up and was cutting his circulation off FAST so we had to haul him to the ER. The stories could go on but..My Mom always said 1 week coming, 1 week staying, and 1 week going and that was pretty much the case (UNTIL i GOT THAT pREDNESONE PRESCRIPTION THAT ONE TIME. i DON'T SEEM TO GET IT ANY MORE ) Sorry about the caps..******* keyboard.

somehow I knew Jimi would relate to the lacquer thinner treatment......... it's the best first aid med in the shop!

the wife actually had some fels-naptha soap on the shelf........ seems to help a bit.... thanks!

Lacquer on small wounds I could see but on large areas not so much. What ever works you.

The Tecnu dries it out the boils, washes off the poison oils and stops the itching within an hour. Follow the directions.

This is a pic of poison oak outside my back door. (the red leaves). This pic is a couple of weeks old -- the leaves are all gone now.
I normally pull the vines down every year and burn them. But haven't had -the itch:) to do so the last few years.

Great minds think alike. Another 29 cent wonder for me is hydrogen peroxide. Anytime I feel a tooth loosening, gums swelling, about 3 episodes of gargling & swishing HP & all is well.

I've never gotten that myself. If I see it in my yard, i pull it out with my bare hands. My wife keeps telling me that one day Ill have a reaction to it.
Maybe I should listen to her for once.

I laughed at poison ivy my entire life....... now I'm crying

Soak a rag with Clorox and apply to infect area. Burns like hell but it will stop the itching. Poison Ivey is the devil's curse.

I worked for a tree service for a few years when I was young and practically lived in the ****. After a while I grew an immunity to it, but before I did my boss told me how the old timers got rid of it. He would soak a shop rag in gasoline and wipe himself down with it. You get a headrush from the fumes but I'll be damned if it didn't work.
In a related story, we were doing some land clearing and chipping all of the brush. The airborne dust from the poison ivy got into a co-workers lungs and nasal passages. He was hospitalized for a few days from it. Needless to say he found a new career.

I cant do this for much longer......I'm bitching, now the wife's bitching...........gimme a lighter

I have many poison oak stories. Thankfully none involved me.
1. School went on camping trip, played flashlight tag saturday night, kid hid in PO patch.
Kid itchy sunday morning.
Kid not at school monday, was in hospital.
Kid returned to school a week later still so puffed up one could not recognize him.
2. Different species, much worse:
