poison ivy

Oh man....all I have to do is come here and I'm laughing my *** off!! Thanks!!! lol. I'm sorry....but when I was in my single digits, I got poison ivy every freakin year and bad too and that's why I'm laughing because I know what's happening and.....when I got it, I'm talking about blister ****! Don't scratch...yeah right. One year my parents got this yellow medicine that stained everything I wore including the sheets on the bed. Don't scratch they said. Ok but my whole body was rubbing on the sheets at night all freakin night long! Always heard that if you get poison ivy 7 years in a row, you don't get it anymore. Never believed that crap but, it happened but still avoid the plant like death....

No poison ivy here...but we have poison oak, and this hell-sent bastard child of the plant world called stinging nettle...whenever I've gotten bit by either of them I always used aloe, from either an aloe vera plant or out of a tube...maybe helps with poison ivy rash too?
Be thankful it's not the skittle rash!

Been there myself, sucks, used to tuff it out but last time I went to the Dr.
He prescribed predisone , I know its not good for you, but is ok if used short term according to the doc.
Anyway, that stuff is great, I stopped itching and the blisters healed up fast. The extra plus was all my other aches and pains went away, knee, shoulder , ect. After awhile though my old aches came back but had a good month . LOL

Go to the doctor and get some cortisone or whatever steroid they prescribe.
Takes the swelling away and all but cures it.
I've had it a few times, pure misery.

been it the woods my whole life; hunting, fishing, quadding, partying........ never had a reaction to it...........

I was wearing shorts and a T shirt last Saturday, it was warm and humid. Sunday night I start itching like 10 mo-fo's......... by Monday I had welts up and down my arms and legs.

Don't scratch it, they said....... yeah, right

at first I thought it was bites; but more kept popping up, as late as yesterday; but not as severe

been sleeping on the couch, barely......... seems to be backing off today, I was wishing for death last night.......... WTF!!!

I always knew it was all over behind my building, but it never bothered me. I have to be on top of it in the spring
I used to get it like sleeves and all over my face. Doctors don't do anything for it, the only thing that doesn't spread it around is swimming in a pool that has chlorine in it, it will be dried up that night works everytime

Leaves of three
Let it be

Leaves of four, eat some more! Lol

I get that **** bad too. I use to get s shot from the doc that kept me from getting it too bad. I've been in the desert for almost 10 years so that helps. I was home a few months ago and Dad had stalks of the stuff growing up around the house. I went full biohazard suit with double, thick rubber gloves, mask, etc and had to cut that shot out and salt the earth to keep it from growing back. I hate that stuff.

A friend of mine told me about a powder form of the plant that was given to new employees that want to become a lineman for the power company. It was intended to give the body a taste for the immune system to chew on and develop a defense.
Don't know if it works but vaccines tend to work well with the same idea.

I recently had a tree company come to take down two big trees next to my house. They had all the stuff including a chipper that filled a big truck and that was dumped in a pile in my backyard.
The next day I had a bit of an itch. A day later I had to go to a clinic with welts on my scalp and swelling of hands and feet. Could not sleep from the itching.
I don't know what caused my reaction but do know that I have poison oak in my yard. Lived here for 30 years and pruned the poison oak every year without a reaction. I was prescribed Benadryl. Don't know if the drug helped or just the time passing healed me.
I'm convinced that something the chipper was filling the air with was new to me.

Did you mean smoke it? What kind of buzz could you get from that stuff ???

I recall that smoking banana peels was supposed to be fun. Even hyperventilating will give a buzz.
BTW whatever happened to the oxygen bars? Maybe that was just an LA thing because of the smog?

Another problem with poison Ivy is its oil can last a long time you have to clean anything it gets on with a strong soap. It is not unusual for urushiol to stay active on any surface, including dead plants, for one to five years.

felds naphtha soap if wash with after you touch poison ivy works good.

Man, I feel for you. I had it very bad about 20 years ago. All over my arms, face, crotch... living hell. The crap still grows out in the back woods. I stay away.

Anyone remember Ivy-Tox? It worked.

I have had it several times.
One time I had it on my crotch. My member was about twice the thickness as normal but the same length. It felt weird peeing through it.
This begs the question. Hang on, no it's OK....best we don't know how come.
