poly 318 four barrel

The poly blocks also have a lot of iron in them. When I was still in school my dad's 56 dodge truck with a poly in it. It was in need of another rebore and it was already .060 over. He found a set of standard bore 340 pistons and proceeded to bore it to suit. .130 over! He put an additional valve relief and chamfered the top of the piston to clear the head. He was already running a Racer Brown performance cam and a four barrel carb. This thing ran really good but you had to run premium fuel and cut the spark advance or it would sound like a popcorn machine under heavy loads. He ran that combo for a couple years until he burned holes in 2 pistons outrunning the law one night. I have wondered to this day what kind of compression ratio that thing had.

Also that dual quad intake pictured above was from either a 57 or 58 Plymouth they are pretty rare.

I have no use for any engine with the distributor in the rear. I like mine slanted on the passenger side front.

I like the poly's just a bit different.

I chose an engine without a distributor...:toothy5:

They are not so bad, If you have one they kinda grow on you ..............

Thanks

there is a fellow over at the Hamb message board out of Canada building an exotic 500 hp + poly right now. Has his whole build in the post. and he tell's ya exactly what he has done or will and where and what parts are needed. The guy is a huge data base of knowledge when it come to the poly engine family and has built them in the 600+ hp range. If you are looking for knowledge on these engines, he is worth a look up.

The intake is a Weiand,No longer made,I got this one new in the box from Hensley Performance at a show in Bristol Tenn. about 10 years ago. They had about 20+ or so for $100.Don't even know if they are in business anymore.

Along with a engine that nobody wants, The car is even more undesireable as it has 4 doors........But it does have TTi exhaust.

Beautiful car, Darter6!

Other tid bits on the poly 318,, The 1963 service manual shows them as having 9.0 to 1 compression, Full floating wrist pins like the later 340,Soild lifter cam with adjustable rocker arms. Just the change to a 600 AFB and the exhaust made a big difference.

I don't know anything about flow numbers on the poly head but the exhaust ports kinda look like that engine that starts with a ''H''.

Like you with your 426 Wedge,I have a complete 500'' sitting waiting to go in, but the thing runs so good I hate to take it apart.
