Power brake booster

excuse me for changing the direction of this thread. My question is;....Is there any reason, besides the 'ole but it's not MOPAR! crowd, that a guy could not just go out to his local wrecking yard and get a complete power disc brake setup from a modern MOPAR car, or any car for that matter, and apply this to his restomod?


I'm sure you could and people have, but like themechanic mentioned you'll be making mod's and spending money anyways. Better off going the aftermarket route if swaying away from factory stuff. At least then you'd end up with stuff that bolt's up (most of the time). Piecing together systems from other cars you'd have to start thinking about: correct pedal travel, correct alignment of equipment and bolt up, correct power assist (too much, too little, just enough), correct bore and volume for current brake system, correct piston forward & back movement, correct booster to master piston pre-gap, correct proportioning front to rear. I'm sure there's set-up's out there that bolt in or close to it, with not a whole lot of effort. Wouldn't be too much researching to find someone or a few that pieced something together that worked. Myself I'd rather have something that was engineered and proven for my ride. Or like mentioned, an upgrade like the Wilwood, Baer, SBBC ect..ect.. stuff.
 
LOL! Hey man..........he's a good ol' boy from the backside of Texas......Don't think he's going to win any acclaimed awards from Stanford on his oral presentation skills. LOL Never the less, still real nice of the fella to take the time & effort to put the vid together for other people to learn. Seems like brake hardware, (outside of just at the wheels) are a one area of cars that are a bit of an Enigma to a lot of folks.

Funny but true. Guy's can tell by the sound of an engine what adjustments need to be made on the carb, and timing. Can stroke a motor and match all the components, but get a little shy with a basic hydraulic system and a pedal lever ratio.... :icon_razz:

Bigger isn't always better, and I get leery when the sales pitch goes into full effect with the other guys stuff is all bad. When you sell a full blown boosted hemi Disc/drum set up to a guy who was keeping drums all around, and when he gets concerned that the brakes are too violent and he is told to just adjust the drums loose (like they will stay that way with self adjusters), and no one else knows what they are talking about, I cross them off the list. I have seen a few cars with the midland booster added, and they brake quite well.

Even inline and MBM have some mis-information posted, they keep confusing Proportioning with metering and hold off, and combos. The technical pages have it right, but the marketing and website guys have misrepresented the information.

Who is really road racing their car at 160mph, or loading it up with 500lbs of luggage and 6 kids for a 2 week road trip? If you are, I would not go old school Mopar, I would go with a modern system like the resto mod guys do.

The service manual explains it pretty well, also the basic websites that show Brake system 101 for techs and such have it right and the message is consistent (service manual too). Folks just miss use terms and that leads to confusion. G
