Price Check: 1969 Charger R/T

From the photos, that's a great looking Charger. Appears to only need a few minor details.

Well, no disrespect but I'm going to disagree. First off, lousy photos so it is hard to tell real condition. But I can see several major problems that tip me off to shoddy work overall. Then, on top of that, it is NOT a real R/T.

Sorry, thought I saw an R/T badge on it, but I'm mistaken on that part. So at least its not being misrepresented in that respect.

All I'm saying is that the car is worth investigating further if the buyer is serious about purchasing a Charger.

Can you expand on what you describe as major problems, except the photos. I'm also in the market for a 69 so any input is helpful. Have you ever worked with North Shore Classics?

I like the Kansas car! I wish these places would post trunk pan and underbody pics. It would motivate me to at least call before I booked travel.

Yea, looks like a nice car. Why not have a car inspection co look at them 1st before you fly out? One thing I don't get is why you need a Tac in an automatic?

Tach=Sports Car & High Performance (at least to the marketing people). Allows you to manual shift, too.

Guy I work with paid $369 for a 'certified inspection and appraisal' on a 1968 Camaro he bought a few years back from a Calif seller. The report came back that it was a almost perfect, rust free car. Even appraised $6,000 more than the purchase price.

When we went to replace the carpet, his screwdriver slipped and punched a hole right through the floorboard. Took the carpet out and the floorboards were Swiss cheese. Lots of other horror stories to tell on this car, so an appraisal did nothing. I'd rather pay $400 for a plane ticket and take a long weekend and see the car and drive it.

1st Q - No, best not. Everybody's criteria is different.
2nd Q - No, I haven't.

There certainly is no substitute for one's own eyes, but regarding the plane ticket; at I recently found out, those $400.00 plane tickets are now doubled in cost.

Charger R/T on eBay holding at $27,350, so I'm still in the game. Just want to drive the car!

Auction stopped! I think he realized he can't sell it until he can get it out of his backyard! Maybe there is still hope?

If the Charger is really exactly what you have been searching for, the seller is "in the ball park" of what you can spend, and people in this forum confirm that that price is also in the ball park, I would suggest not quibbling over a "few thousand" dollars.
You may spend "too much", but I'm assuming your statement is not hyperbole and just buyer's exuberance. When will you find "exactly" what you are searching for again close to home? It may become a relic in your garage for that 5 grand. But will you find the color, options and whatever else you are finding on this car anywhere else. And what will the price on that car be?
As you have said, you have been looking for 10 years. For this "exact" car?
The only caveat is to really know what you are getting here.
Demand to find out what the car really is and what you are getting.
My 2 cents

Like your 'snow ball' example earlier, the same can be said about the purchase. My budget has always been 29, which keeps about 5 to be used for the car. If I go much higher, the car becomes a unused relic in the garage for a few years.

I've been in the market for almost 10 years. The Charger is exactly what I have been searching for, but to be honest, I'm starting to talk myself out of it. The fact that the seller has neglected the car, and seems unmotivated to sell the car, or even work with me a little, is convincing me that owning a B Body may not be in the cards. I exited the market 20 years ago and just can't re-enter. You either need $125,000 to buy a car, or have $35,000 to buy a car and another $30,000 to put back into it. Kind of frustrated; a 318 Coronet with a 440 V8 is looking like the kind of car I need to buy.

That car is what we'd call "lipstick on a pig". The exterior pictures look ok, but if you look closely, you'll see that it's a hack job.

Can you expand on that so I can learn some things to look out for.

Look at the pictures of the rear wheelwell. You can see that the quarter has been replaced by the excess sheetmetal beyond the wheel lip molding. The dashboard, ash tray & steering column paint looks like crap, the inner driver's door is missing the mirror, the K frame & oil pan are beat up & the exhaust looks like crap and those Flowmasters have got to go. No underhood or trunk pictures & my guess is that they look even worse.
