Would it be ok to use rustoleum "clean metal" primer over body filler? I have a ring of bare metal around a repair that needs to be covered. I know epoxy is the preffered primer but I only need it for a little area and would be great if I can get a spray can of this or something this weekend to cover this little bit before I hit with urethane high build.

Rustoleum said it would be ok to use(I called) but I want a second opinion before I spray it.

I can also pick up some self etch but have heard varying opinions on putting over body filler.

Thanks. I did see those available but can't find locally. Was hoping to tackle this weekend.

I've never used "Rustoleum" for body work, but by your description, I might think their product you refer to may be self-etching primer ? sorry

It is different than self-etching. This basically has to go down over roughed up metal. Their self-etch can go over smooth metal. I don't think it has the acid that self-etch does. Just looking for something I can use this weekend. Seems all the epoxy aerosal cans are mail order.

Have you checked with your local auto paint store and see what he has/recommends? The trick question is the Rustoleum compatiible with what you are going to shoot over it in the end.

My too car paint store options are Carquest and Sherwin Williams. They both have no clue when asking in depth questions. These guys come off like they have never sprayed anything before and can't answer crap past what the label says.
