I've owned this Mopar since the mid 80's and I highly suspect it is a Bee although the ViN says it's an "L" grade 6 cyl 1 bbl. It's got the ralley dash right 383, auto, 323 rear split seats and other stuff in a bee but no fender tag. The serial numbers on the rad support and in trunksont Do not match the VIN. Is there any way to prove what it is perhaps by cross referencing the serno to build records from the LA mfg plant? At this point should I worry about trying to verify it's a Super Bee with the messed up numbers?

I made a mistake in the post. The VIN serial numbers DON'T match the body numbers. My mistake.

For 68 the number on the rad support is the sales order number and will not match the VIN. I thought something fishy was going on with my 68 RR when I saw that then I found out differently. If the VIN starts with WM it's a real Bee.

Unless someone put a Bee VIN (or dash) and parts on a /6 car. Happens.

Are you saying none of the numbers on the body match the VIN?

Do the rad support and trunk numbers match?

What is an L grade /6? I thought L was 440 in 68.

Or are you saying the 5th digit is like B for a 198?

How about torque boxes on the frame members? Sway bar?

Those would be a bit harder to swap over.

Of course there are documented VIN mistakes as well.

It should have a sway bar if it's a Bee, but will NOT have torque boxes unless it was a Hemi car

I stand corrected.

Should it not also have big brakes?

In 1968 the radiator and trunk lip numbers are shipping order numbers and not vin numbers. The shipping order numbers are on the radiator support, trunk lip, fender tag,and buildsheet. And "L" in 1968 is 440.

By "L" I meant a WL not WM on the VIN but I believe the VINon dash was switched. The trunk and rad support numbers match each other but not the vin. The mediator at the superbee registry .com said those frame numbers should match the Vin. I'm embarrased to say I don't know if it's got a sway bar. The car is not with me. I'll check. I don't think it's a hemi car, but what are torque boxes? Basically Im hearing that the only definitive ID is via the dash vin and fender tag and everything else could be switched or not definitively useful fo ID of a true bee. Is that true?

The trunk and radiator support numbers are the shipping order numbers on a 1968 car.On a 1969 and later car the trunk and radiator support numbers are vin numbers. You will only find the vin numbers on the dash vin tag, buildsheet, window sticker, and title on a 1968 car.

You will only find the vin numbers on the dash vin tag, buildsheet, window sticker, and title on a 1968 car.

You may also find a partial VIN on the back of the engine and on the transmission.

As said above, if it is a true 1968 Super Bee the V.I.N. will be WM21H8******* If it is a 383 car. They only made Bees in a coupe in 1968 this is all it can be unless it is a Hemi car in which case the 5th digit would be a J.

Do you have the original fender tag for the car? If so the hidden body numbers will match the last 6 digits of the bottom right line of the tag. The V.I.N. is not on the tag but you can compare things like the the original paint color and options to see if they match the fender tag info to see if the body and tag match one another. Check the engine and trans code to see if they are correct for a Super Bee.

The only possibly way to determine if the V.I.N. tag has been switched to another body is to be able to tie the sales order number to the V.I.N. which has both on the broadcast sheet, window sticker, IBM car an dealer invoice.

Where are vin serial numbers on engine? If they didn't put a vin matching serno on the rad support and trunk in 68 did they put them on the engine?

For some of you that maybe didn't read my earlier posts correctly, I know what the vin SHOULD BE for a bee and 383, but Im saying I believe the dash Vin is incorrect, so only the serno or build numbers are relevant for this topic.

I have no build or window sheet. How do I cross reference serno to the order number?

Thanks for your help.

The vin number on the engine would be on the top rear of the engine, next to where to tranny bolts up to.If the engine is in the car you will never see the vin, unless it is a spotless engine and you have a good flashlight.

All 68 Bee,s vin,s start WM21 as are coupes. All have Charger rallye clusters, bench seats, dual exhaust (look for plate through floor under back seat for exhaust hanger) ,power bulge hood, heavy duty suspension with 11" drum brakes, stainless trim on B pillars ,roof gutters and wheel lips. #,s match engine stamp on pan rail and top of trans bell if auto should match dash vin.Order number on car matches fender tag, Bumble Bee stripe and tail light panel paint, black matte finished grill. It,s a Super Bee

On the engine, would it be the whole vim or the vin serno or the order number (as it is in the body in 68)?

It would be the last half of your vin number and should match the last half of your vin number on the dash.
