Questions about... a Toronado!

I've always loved the Toro since its debut in 66. I think the loop bumper was a 68 intro. I think the first gen Toros are a classic styled car. I owned one years ago & if I had the room, I'd get another one today in a heartbeat.

The Toronado was car of the year in 66. Leno may have done a Rivera sometime. He probably has so many cars I bet even he forgets what he's got sometimes. I should be so lucky.

that i likeee. :headbang: had one in the eighties some time during the bike thing for a winter beater, a blast. the only thing today would be parts supply, but if you snoop hard enough there will be a couple of place's out there that have em. there always is. i remember the the biggest bitch's was if, it had front end problems in the day. not a lot of wrench's new much about them and they were torque monsters, ie, front end stuff.

you know if a guy had some extra bucks and the time it would be a hell of a project to turn it into rear wheel. wouldn't be that hard to do either, using good used metal. just sold a boat tail riv from cheyene 2 yrs ago with the 455 in it. one owner. You Can't Keepem All. good luck.

You got a good point there MarPar, they aren't little cars, they are wide & long as hell too...

Ha! You are correct, sir. I already know it won't fit. My garage is maxed out, and shaped in a goofy way. My Charger has about 6 inches front and back to each wall, the Benz I have is luckily a lot shorter.

So yeah, if I get this beast for a song, where the hell am I going to put it? Aw, I'll just worry about that later. :)

I thoght he was talking about the moustahe.

Don't sell that Olds 425 short.

I had a 66 98 with the 425 and a 10 bolt "posi" rear.

If you floored the gas, then let up all the way, then floored it again...after about 4 cycles the front wheels would come off the ground! Won a lot of bets that way.

LOL big time!

Thanks for this post YY1
Yup, I would be one of the guys losing the bet and standing in line handing you money back then!
LOL

Harley Earl was the designer at GM that did the Toronado and some other cool GM cars, Riviera too.
Very talented and looking to the future

Dad had a 71. The guy across the street had a silver and black 68. The 71 was more of a notch back instead of the earlier fastback design. Had to big one of the biggest 2-doors ever made. The hood was like the deck of an aircraft carrier. One of the cars that I learned to drive in. I alway loved the fastbacks more though. Cool cars.
They were the king of the Pikes Peak High Climb for years. Back then the Toronado and the El Derado were the only front wheel drive cars made in the US. There weren't many FWD cars back then. SAAB. The Jap cars were still RRD.

Don't know if you guys have ever seen one of these, but George Barris customized a few Toronados. As if they weren't big enough, these were lengthened a fair amount and a few typical Barris touches added. A guy up in the Vancouver B.C. area has one in perfect condition. I see it at the local shows occasionally. Pretty cool.

Those are great cruisers. I built one about 20 years ago put a 455 in it and it did ok... then the guy that owned it put nitrous on it and it would just fry the front tires off. what a funny sight.
